Today, dozens of children are coming to our Community Resource Center to pick out the backpack they'll use all school year.

Horton's Kids is distributing more than 120 backpacks to children like Lanae and MaKaela, pictured in front of our Community Resource Center with their new backpacks.

"I love my backpack," says Saadiyah, a 6th-grader in our program. "When I walked into the room I went right to my bag. It's the best color and it has a lot of really big pockets. There were binders, colored pencils, folders, flash cards, pencil cases, markers, glue - all of the things I need for school. I was so excited for school.  It's time to get my education, so I can go to college ."

At the beginning of every school year, Horton's Kids distributes backpacks to make sure children can start the school year on the right foot: prepared and ready to learn. We're happy to be distributing more than 120 backpacks , each full of all of the school supplies the kids will need.
"I had everything to go to school for the first day. I was excited to start school," says 8th-grader Azion.
Our backpack distribution - like so many things we do - is only possible because of our incredibly generous supporters like you. You donated backpacks and school supplies, and you shared our need on Facebook and Twitter. And many of you donated so we could buy last-minute odds and ends. Thank you for supporting some of the most at-risk children in our community and setting them up for success.

We'll keep this positive momentum going throughout the entire school year through academic programs like tutoring, advocacy, and homework help, with committed supporters and volunteers like you alongside us every step of the way.

We're so fortunate to have you as our partners, and we can't wait to work together for a great school year.
