Fullerton College Welcomes 25,000 Students
Fullerton College welcomed more than 25,000 new, continuing and returning students to campus for the start of the fall semester. For many students, the day consisted of arriving on campus as early as 7 a.m., staying until classes ended at 10 p.m., and catching up with friends and classmates in between.

FC Leisure Reading Book Group
The FC Leisure Reading Book Group promotes leisure reading through informal monthly get-togethers. Over light snacks, members discuss the book chosen by the group. At this first meeting, students will select the book for the semester. The Friends of the Library has generously offered to purchase books for members. The Cadena Cultural Center and Associated
Students will host the
12th annual ¡Bienvenidos! A Day of Welcome & Celebration on Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on the quad. The free event, which is open to the campus community, is designed to inspire and encourage all students in their quest for academic success. Students can connect with instructional resources, student-led organizations, student support services, and academic departments. President Open Forums, Office Hour
In an effort to encourage communication and strengthen teamwork across campus, President Greg Schulz has scheduled a series of Open Forums. All faculty, staff, and students are encouraged to attend. This month's
Open Forum is from 2 to 3 p.m. in Room 224 on Monday, Sept. 19. He will also hold an Open Office Hour this week on Wednesday, Aug. 31 from 3-4 p.m.
Fullerton College Closed in Observance of Labor Day
The campus will be closed on Monday, Sept. 5 for the Labor Day holiday, classes will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 6.
FC Puente Project Welcomes New Cohorts
On Friday, Aug. 12, the Puente Project held its first-ever, New Student Retreat. Puente staff Elías Domínguez, Elsa Aguirre, Elli England and Roger Perez, welcomed 57 new students.

Students prepare for 2nd annual Quadchella
Associated Students is preparing for a bigger and better Quadchella this year. The event, which features an eclectic mix of bands and musicians performing in the center of the quad, will be held Tuesday, Sept. 13 from 4 to 9 p.m. The success and participation of last year's event pushed students to seek greater participation this year. More than 10 bands and musicians are expected to perform, free food will be offered to students with A.S. benefits, and the event is expected to draw more than 200 students to the quad for an evening of fun. Health Services Classroom Presentations
Health Services is taking requests for classroom presentations for the fall semester. Classroom presentation are typically 15 minutes and are facilitated by certified peer health educators. They will describe the services available, how to access health services, fees and other relevant information. Time is always available to answer student questions. Scheduling for classroom presentations will continue until the end of October. To schedule a classroom presentations visit the

Workshops Designed for the New Online Teaching and Learning Certificate Offered
The workshop, Communication: Regular Effective Contact, will be on Aug. 31 from 2 to 3 p.m. in Room 314. Attendees will learn what constitutes "regular and effective contact" and the methods of communication that support student retention and success. The workshop, LMS/Blackboard for Face-to-Face Teaching is on Sept. 7 from 3 to 5 p.m. in TEC Computer Lab, Room 800D. Attendees will learn about LMS and how to adapt face-to-face instruction to an online class or lesson. There is a workshop on Accessibility on Sept. 9 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in Room 800D. Attendees will learn about the basics of creating accessible documents and options for video captioning.

Help the Accreditation Steering Committee discover hidden evidence of the excellent work being done at Fullerton College. Fall Habits of Mind: Mindful Growth
This semester's Habits of Mind series will be on
Mindfulness Basics. The series runs Monday, Sept. 12, 19 and 26 from 4 to 5 p.m. in Room 312. This series of three introduces participants to the theory and practice of mindfulness through discussion and activities.

The FC Art Department is proud to introduce the Biennial Faculty Exhibition. Instructor talent is made all too clear inside these four walls; they not only work in a variety of styles and media, but they also constantly seek new voices and new possibilities. Join the department in the opening reception on Sept. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. in the FC Art Gallery.

Football
The Hornets had a successful scrimmage at Pasadena City College on Saturday, amounting to more than five hours of work. They are ready to fire on all cylinders this Saturday, when they play in the 94th Key to the County Game at Santa Ana College (Eddie West Field) at 6 p.m.
Men's Soccer
The Hornets opened the 2016 season at home on Friday afternoon under new head coach Greg Aviles. FC did not disappoint as they locked down their first win over Glendale College in a 2-1 non-conference match-up. FC's goals were scored by Gerard Abessolo and Rene Santillan.
Up Next: Fullerton (1-0 overall) will travel to Southwestern College for another non-conference game today. Game time is at 3:30 p.m.
