Pastor Sidney Brock

So here's what I want you to do, God helping you: Take your everyday, ordinary life-your sleeping, eating, going-to-work, and walking-around life-and place it before God as an offering. Embracing what God does for you is the best thing you can do for him. Don't become so well-adjusted to your culture that you fit into it without even thinking. Instead, fix your attention
on God. You'll be changed from the inside out. Readily recognize what he wants from you, and quickly respond to it. Unlike the culture around you, always dragging you down to its level of immaturity, God brings the best out of you, develops well-formed maturity in you.
Romans 12:1-2 (msg)

Good relationships are  possible especially when we choose to do things God's way.  In our new series, "SHIFT" beginning September 11th in our Sunday worship gatherings, we will discuss various parts of relationships and see that there can be a huge contrast between common and acceptable in this world to the abnormal.  To make this "SHIFT" will require not only the knowledge of God's word and HIS plan but also the courage and strength to go against the flow of culture.

Since Growing Spiritually, Sharing Life, and Serving Others are important at Heritage, be looking for intentional environments and activities that have been planned this Fall to help you mature in your faith.

We want to thank our Heritage family for your generosity.  We are excited about being able to partner with others within our community to raise a grand total of $12,500 for "Project Generosity".  The check was presented on Thursday, August 25th to Mrs. Tammy Langley at Fruitland Park Elementary School.

I am praying for our upcoming women's retreat, "Girlfriends & God Getaway" September 23-24th.  I hope that every woman will have th e opportunity to be able to attend without hindrance.  Men, let's step up to the plate and do everything we can to make it easy on our spouses to be part of the retreat like they do for us every January for our men's retreat.

Thank you again for your faithfulness in your tithes and offerings.  As we continue to ask the Lord for wisdom, direction and clarity, our desire is that we will continue to be wise stewards of what God has entrusted us.  I pray that you are spending time in God's word daily, not just to check it off your list of things to get done but that you are truly seeking to hear God's voice and follow Him.  Two questions to always end your quiet time with...
     1. What is God's word saying?
     2.  What am I  going to do?

Blessings,
Pastor Sidney

Girlfriends & God Getaway

Life is so busy.  Time gets zapped with the pressure of people, projects, and work.  And yet, in His infinite wisdom, God calls us to occasionally come apart from the rat race to spend time with Him and connect with others.  That is sometimes our biggest challenge - just saying yes when so many things pressure us to say no.  But through practice we learn that the results far out weigh the effort.

You don't want to miss this wonderful opportunity to enjoy a G irlfriends and God Getaway at Lake Yale.  This is a time of fun, fellowship and relaxation.  Our theme is UNStuck . If we take the time to think about it, we are all stuck on some issue that keeps us from experiencing the abundant life God wants us to have... fear, self image, busyness, sticky relationships, indecisiveness, and even
being satisfied where we are and not wanting to take the next step in our relationship with Jesus.
This will be a unique of worshipping with our girlfriends away from the hustle and bustle, to listen for our Father's Voice as He reveals some life changing truths from our guest speaker, Debbie Stuart, and to get UNStuck from...(you fill in your blank____)

Our guest speaker will be   Debbie Stuart

Debbie is on fire to draw women into the Word of God and equip them to become powerful influencers in their families and communities.
Debbie has been a Women's Ministry Consultant and Trainer for LifeWay Christian Resources for 15 years.
She is an encourager for women to develop a lifetime habit of spending daily quality time with God, Debbie authored "20 Minutes a Day for the Rest of Your Life", which is a great workbook for developing your study time with the Lord and incorporating Biblical principles for personal application.

Invite your friends, sisters, mothers, co-workers and neighbors! Let's get excited about getting away to Lake Yale Baptist Convention Center for the weekend and getting "UNSTUCK"!

When:   September 23-24, 2016
Where:  Lake Yale Conference Center
Cost:     Conference $75 per person

Women's Seven Week Bible Study

All Day, every day an invisible war rages around you.  A devoted devilish enemy seeks to wreak havoc on everything that matters to you.  The enemy always fails miserably when he meets a woman dressed for the occasion.  The Armor of God, more than merely a biblical description of believer's inventory, is an action plan for putting it on and developing a personalized strategy for secure victory.

Join us for this 7-week session Bible study.  Because we don't want any woman left out, we will be going through this study twice each Wednesday, beginning September 28th at 9:00 am and 6:30 pm.

If you're a new believer, or just looking for answers, or even coming back to church after some time away, Foundations I is for you.  This is a great eight-week journey to learn about your faith and relationship with Jesus Christ.  As a result, you will come to experience, appreciate and implement practical spiritual growth in your life.

This class will include what Scripture says about the following:
  • Being assure of your salvation
  • Publicly declaring your faith
  • Sharing Jesus with others
  • Studying your Bible
  • Learning to pray
  • Being faithful to a church
  • Trustin Jesus to direct your life
Come discover the truth in Scripture.  Everyone is welcome to join us each Sunday morning 9-10:15 for eight weeks, beginning September 18th in the conference room on the lower level (backside) of HCC. Click below to register.

In a nine-week class, Mark DuShane will teach you Dave Ramsey's seven easy-to-follow Baby Steps to create a budget, get out of debt, and make a plan for your money!

Mark will walk you through the basics of budgeting, dumping debt, planning for the future, and much more. Classes are made up of small groups of people for you to share ideas, be encouraged, and stay motivated with. The cost is $99.00 per couple, and will meet each Tuesday evening at 6:30 pm beginning September 20th in the conference room at Heritage Community Church.

Staff Member Spotlight

Each month we like to share the spotlight with one of our overseers or staff members.  We want everyone to have the opportunity to get to know these great people behind the scenes who go above and beyond in glorifying God.
This mon th we are shining the spotlight on Pastor Melvin Davison.

Melvin married his wife Dawn sixteen years ago, between them, they have four children and two precious grandchildren.   The Davison family first visited HCC in the Summer of 2013, as they were planning on moving to the area from Lakeland.  After their first visit, they knew this is where God wanted them to be.  They immediately loved that building relationships was a priority to Pastor Sidney and Pastor Brian.

Melvin understands the importance for teenagers to have God in their lives, he himself began building his relationship with Christ through a high school friend's mother, "Mama Lu" at the age of fifteen, and by the age of 28 realized he needed to make Jesus Lord of his life.

On August 16, 2003, Melvin's faith was tested when his father passed away.  It was a time of wrestling, however, God used this time to draw him closer.  When asked about one God story that stands out to him, he replied. "It's hard to say just one, but my biggest God story is the transformation that has taken place in my family since I decided to become a follower and not just a believer.  It's been a radical transformation and I'm so grateful for everything God has done in our lives".

This past Summer, Melvin blessed us by accepting the position as our youth pastor.  Since that time, our youth ministry has thrived immensely.  On the first official night back to youth since school started last month, there were over one hundred students and volunteer leaders. Now, that is something to get excited about!
