Join us for Library Lunch n' Learns!

Indy Connect is hosting lunchtime information sessions about the Marion County Transit Plan and upcoming ballot question. Bring your lunch to any of the September sessions to learn how the plan will affect your neighborhood.

On the November 8th, Marion County residents will have the option to vote on an income tax increase of $0.25 for every $100 of income to pay for improving public transit. If approved, the Marion County Transit Plan will:
  • create a connected, frequent network of bus and rapid transit lines;
  • bring a 70% increase in IndyGo services, shortening wait times and increasing morning, evening and weekend hours; and
  • implement the Blue and Purple rapid transit lines along high-ridership corridors, and expand the Red Line.
The full plan would be completed and operating by 2021.

Take Part in Car Free Day - September 22
World Car Free Day is Thursday, Sept. 22, and for the first time, Central Indiana is joining cities all over the world to celebrate carpools, vanpools, riding IndyGo, biking, walking and other forms of sustainable transportation.

CIRTA's Commuter Connect   is leading the charge by encouraging residents to take the online pledge to go car free or car lite that day. Everyone who pledges before Sept. 22 will be registered to win some cool prizes, including tickets to the inaugural Red Bull Air Show at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway and Pacers Bikeshare memberships.

In addition, on Sept. 22, everyone's invited to attend a lunchtime event on Monument Circle, as well as morning and afternoon rush events in Indy and Greenwood. They will feature free entertainment and refreshments (while supplies last), and everyone who pledges and comes to an event can get a pass for a free cab ride home in case of emergency. See event details here.

The benefits of being Car Free/Car-Lite include:
  • Be more productive!  When you're participating in a carpool, vanpool, or riding transit, you can work, read, or text - things you can't do when you're driving.
  • Save money!  Carpool, take transit, walk, or bike and pay less for gas, parking, and wear and tear on your vehicle.
  • Stay social!  Carpooling and vanpooling will give you more time to spend with coworkers and friends instead of sitting in traffic alone.
  • Improve the environment!  Carpooling, vanpooling, bicycling, walking, and taking transit reduces your carbon footprint when compared to driving alone, and helps to improve the air quality in Indianapolis.

Check out the new Red Line Bus on September 1!
IndyGo will be driving around an example of the new Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) vehicle this September! BRT vehicles like this one will be used for the Red Line, and possibly Blue and Purple Lines too!

The first chance you'll have to see it is at the Indy Chamber's HobNob event on Thursday, September 1 at Crowne Plaza in Downtown Indianapolis. The vehicle will be parked on Illinois Street outside Union Station from 5pm-8pm, and anyone is welcome to stop by and take a look, regardless of whether you're attending HobNob. While you're there we'll be happy to answer your questions about the Marion County Transit Plan and upcoming ballot question.

These new vehicles will be battery-electric, meaning they don't use any combustible fuel at all! They will be roomy, have options to roll your bike and wheelchair right on, and offer wifi for riders. They will have LED signs inside indicating the next station stop, and what time the vehicle will arrive there. These vehicles will also feature unique branding to identify them as a rapid, fast, and reliable service.

HobNob is the Indy region's premier political event. HobNob reaches across party lines and brings together the region's best and brightest political leaders and cultural influencers. If you'd like to register for HobNob, visit the event's EventBrite page.
