HUMOR COLUMN
More Jokes from Bob:

"Thanks for the generous donation," the church treasurer said, looking at a check she had just been handed.
The donor smiled. "Well, you can thank the Holy Spirit."
The treasurer rolled her eyes. "C'mon. It wasn't that generous."

The greatest surprise of Mary's life was receiving a dollar on her fourth birthday. She carried the bill about the house and was seen sitting on the stairs admiring it.
"What are you going to do with your dollar?" her mother asked.
"Take it to Sunday School," said Mary promptly.
"To show your teacher?" Mary shook her head.
"No," she said. "I'm going to give it to God. He'll be as surprised as I am to get something besides pennies."

My first job was working in an orange juice factory, but I got canned...couldn't concentrate.
Then I worked in the woods as a lumberjack, but I just couldn't hack it, so they gave me the ax.
After that I tried to be a tailor, but I just wasn't suited for it ...mainly because it was a so-so job.
Next I tried working in a muffler factory but that was too exhausting.
Then I tried to be a chef - figured it would add a little spice to my life, but I just didn't have the thyme.
I attempted to be a deli worker, but any way I sliced it, I couldn't cut the mustard.
My best job was being a musician, but eventually I found I wasn't noteworthy.
I studied a long time to become a doctor, but I didn't have any patience.
I became a professional fisherman, but discovered that I couldn't live on my net income.
I managed to get a good job working for a pool maintenance company, but the work was just too draining.
So then I got a job in a workout center, but they said I wasn't fit for the job.
After many years of trying to find steady work I finally got a job as a historian until I realized there was no future in it.
My last job was working at Starbucks, but I had to quit because it was always the same old grind.

The visitor was curious when he saw the Bible verse on the door from 1 Corinthians 15:51: "Behold, I tell you a mystery; we shall not all sleep, but we shall all be changed."
It all became clear when the visitor realized the door was to the nursery.
*****
Recreation is my shepherd, I shall not stay at home; It maketh me to lie down in a sleeping bag; It leadeth me down the interstate each weekend.
It restoreth my suntan; It leadeth me to state parks for comfort's sake. Even though I stray on the Lord's Day, I will fear no reprimand, for I am relaxed; My rod and reel they comfort me.
I anointed my skin with oil, My gas tank runneth dry; Surely my trailer shall follow me all the weekends of summer, And I shall return to the house of the Lord this fall.
But by then, it will be hunting season and football season, And that's another psalm.

"What did you learn in Sunday school?" the grandfather asked the little boy after church.
"Nothing."
"Nothing?" replied the grandfather. "Didn't you study Jesus?"
The boy scowled. "No, he wasn't even there."

The first Evensong after the Summer break will be on Sunday 21 August at 6:00 pm. The service will be followed by a reception at about 6:40 pm in Kelly Hall. All are welcome.

There will be a meeting for Youth Choir Choristers and Parents immediately after Sunday's Evensong in Kelly Hall.

The next Smith's Bucks order is due  Tuesday, August 23 by Noon
TOTH's regular order to recharge Smith's Bucks cards is placed
every other week, now. This is to try and increase our order and get a larger percentage donation for the church from Smith's. If you don't have a card yet, just put a check in the plate and write "Smith's Bucks new card" on the memo line. The next deadlines for Smith's orders are the Tuesdays during the week after LANL paydays: August 23, September 6 and 20. Mark your calendars! Thank you for your participation!
Next TOTH Elder Group Coffee
On Monday, August 22, Brad Wright's topic will be "The Tubesafone Project:  why music sounds as good as it does."  The tubesafone is unique.  It consists of a trombone mouthpiece, two tees, three stoppers  and five tubes. Its range is over three octaves.  So why doesn't this "hypothetical musical instrument" sound like a trombone?  At the August meeting in Sherrill Hall at 10:30 a.m. Brad will use the tubesafone, along with a variety of musical artifacts and recordings, to lead a discussion of the many factors involved when human beings use tools to create music. Coffee and a light snack will be served.
CHECK OUT TOTH COMMUNITY GARDEN
Our ToTH Community Garden is growing! Zucchini flowers with tiny squash attached for picking soon, tomatoes emerged small and green, about six inches of bean plants needing propping up any day. Other plants we see leafing well are: radishes, pumpkin, watermelon, cucumbers, eggplant and sweet peppers. Want to plant something? There is still space. Want to help pull 'bind weed?' Call Paul Lisowski.

Thanks to Paul and Richard for the hard work they did to prepare the ground and watering system, and plant!
CHILDREN'S BAZAAR DONATIONS
are being accepted (as they are actually all year long!)    Please put your donations in the box by the south entry, near the Church School/Library wing.  A list of suggestions is attached to the box.  This year's Bazaar will be on December 3.  Also be thinking of other ways you can help the committee!  About 60 volunteers are needed!

TOTH Playground Project Update
Yay! The fence is up (with the exception of the gate which is forthcoming) and the hard work is finished.  We are indebted to all involved in building the playground and the fence, particularly our two Scouts Malcolm Carr and Jerome Colletti. Tentatively planned for Sunday, August 21st after the 10:30 service is a Blessing of the Playground.  Please plan on attending.
MORE Efficiency in Parish Life Event Planning with "Sign up Genius"!
Parish Life Ministry would like to streamline events and make the distribution of the work load less onerous. We are doing a few things - ensuring events go under the proper ministry so it doesn't all fall back on Parish Life; ensuring there is a coordinator for each event or it won't happen (someone needs to spear head events); online signups for volunteers or food.
If you're not receiving emails from www.SignUpGenius.com (for sign ups at the church), please email me at [email protected].  And if you want to be removed, please also contact me. I have removed a couple of names and added a couple of names already. This is a way to easily sign up to volunteer for set ups, clean ups and potlucks. You can also go to the SignUpGenius web site and click at the top right to look for sign ups. At the next page, enter my email and the security letters. You'll be directed to our TOTH sign ups.

Recommended Reading from the Diocese

In keeping with the theme of Convention,
Keeping the World Right Side Up:
The Jesus Movement in the Diocese of the Rio Grande,
Bishop Vono commends for your reading:

Jesus Today: A Spirituality of Radical Freedom
by Albert Noland

The Author in his introduction writes:
"My focus is spirituality, not theology. We may deplore the present divorce between spirituality and theology, but since it is spirituality that deals with experience and practice, and theology that deals with doctrines and dogmas, my concern in this book is decidedly spiritual. This is not a book about Christology, the theological significance of Jesus' life, death, and resurrection. It is a book about Jesus' own spirituality, that is today, about the experience and attitudes behind what he said and did, what fired and inspired him."

    • If this doesn't work, let Cynthia know so we can check that we have the right email address for you in the database!
  • When the system recognizes you, you can set up your own user name and password.
