This Week in Westcreek

Current Announcements

"Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people." ~ Eleanor Roosevelt

From the Community Manager's Desk

Quincy Harper Sr.
On Friday of last week, I had the opportunity to sit down and talk with six VWOA homeowners who are all Committee Leaders.  Each one of the homeowners plays a huge role in making the Association run smoothly.  Mr. Gene Hopkins (Architectural Review Committee), Mr. Bill Fenstermacher (Communications Committee), Mrs. Michelle De Jongh (Communications Committee), Mr. Bill Teeter (Ambassador Committee), Mrs. Angela Webb (Landscaping Committee) and Mr. Varnell Johnson (Sports Park Committee) have all taken a leadership role in making sure the community is informed, maintained and that there are adequate facilities for recreation.  If you would like to be a part of a committee, please contact the office at 210-679-8761.

With school back in full swing, please be careful and watch out for the kids crossing the street.  This week we received new appliances in the Community Center Kitchen and ten new chairs for the conference room.  It's important that you as the homeowners know exactly where your assessments are being spent.

Lastly, I would like to recognize Mrs. Melynda Porter (Administrative Assistant) who is a homeowner and employee of VWOA.  Melynda does a fantastic job and we really appreciate all she does.  Last week marked six years of her employment with VWOA.

Thank you for your support and understanding. Please contact the staff, the Board or me if you have any questions.

Don't forget to check "This Week in Westcreek" for future updates!

In early August, each homeowner should have received the Spectrum postcard pictured above.

We encourage you to immediately register your online service center account at www.spectrumam.com using the access code provided on the back of your postcard.

If you have any questions, or need anything at all, give us a call at 210-679-8761 or chat with us online using the Live Chat feature.

You can also email us at contact@spectrumam.com.

How can you take a single step towards your dream without knowing the destination?

We want to thank the members of the "Communications Committee" for "Making a Difference" with their dedication and persistent work, to improve the overall structure and navigation of our website.  Members of the committee include: Bill Fenstermacher (Chair), Michelle De Jongh (Secretary), Gene Hopkins, Barbara Hopkins, Billy Teeter, Francis Lomax, Joyce Oliver, Guy Oliver and Jean Woodward.

Recently, they have been working on a new reorganization of the website that has resolved many of the navigational issues when accessing it through mobile devices.  They also addressed the issue of the home page moving up and down, by using standardized image sizes in the blog section of the website.

In addition to the website, this Committee has made dramatic improvements to our weekly online newsletter "This Week in Westcreek."  They have stepped up to the plate and have taken this publication from start to finish.  Where other communities publish their newsletter either monthly,  quarterly, or annually, this group of volunteers manages to publish a quality product every week.

So what is next for the Communications Committee?  The next big initiative they are working on is to bring their recommendation of "online voting" to the community, in time for our  next Board of Directors election in April. In addition, they are exploring using online survey tools to gather feedback to improve processes and services that we offer to the community. At their meeting in September, they will provide input to representatives of Spectrum regarding the homeowner portals.  The committee is looking at creating a "Healthy Recipe" section on the website that would compliment our "Health and Fitness Programs." They also want to explore how the Association can utilize social media, so that we can reach a broader audience.

The work that these volunteers contribute each week is a huge labor and contract cost savings to the Association.

If you see something that we can improve on the website or in the newsletter, please do not hesitate to let us know.  Send your recommendations to the Community Manager who will pass them directly on to the Committee.

The Communications Committee holds their meetings every first Monday of the month at 10:00 A.M. (unless it falls on a holiday, otherwise it is postponed until the following Monday) in the Community Center Conference Room.

If you are looking for a way to contribute to our community and have some creative ideas about how we can improve our communication processes, this committee may be what you are looking for.
You too, can "Make A Difference!"

ADDRESS HOUSE NUMBERING

Address numbers are required for the timely and accurate response of all emergency vehicles and law enforcement officials. Plants and tree limbs must be kept clear of the address on the house at all times.

The address numbers must be:
  • Affixed to the front of the dwelling;
  • No less than two (2") inches in height; and,
  • Clearly legible from the street at all times.
Local vendors will paint address numbers on curbs for a small fee that do not require ARC approval, however they will fade over time and is subject to being rubbed off by vehicle tires and/or street sweepers.

Affixing additional addresses, anywhere else on the property, requires a PIA be the submitted to the ARC for approval to include the type of material, color(s), size, type of lighting, if any, and a copy of the Plat/Lot Survey showing the proposed location.

(Refer to Appendices B and C for sample PIA and Plat/Lot Survey).

Just a reminder that the VWOA Office will be closed on Labor Day.  Our Sports Park and Pools will be open this Labor Day for your enjoyment!

Labor Day is annually held on the first Monday of September. It was originally organized to celebrate various labor associations' strengths of and contributions to the United States economy. It is largely a day of rest in modern times. Many people mark Labor Day as the end of the summer season and a last chance to make trips or hold outdoor events

When driving through the Villages of Westcreek and neighboring communities, we would like to remind you to be alert of children going to and from school.

Did you do anything fun this past weekend? If you didn't, do you wish you had known about some of the events/activities going on around the city?

When my family moved to Westcreek in 2009, we were new to San Antonio and didn't know much about the area. We often didn't know about events until they were over. I started researching and reading local magazines, web sites, calendars, newspapers and discovered there is so much more to do.

If you'd like to learn about local happenings and fun activities, there is a simple way to get the information delivered right to your email inbox every week. You can subscribe to the FREE list I compile and send on Fridays. There will be a web site eventually, but in the meantime it is emailed.

To see this week's list, CLICK HERE to download and print!
