THIS WEEK'S SCRIPTURE
PASTOR'S BLOG
Greetings Cascade Family and Friends,

My week started with a wonderful opportunity at Atlanta Technical College. Dr. Sheila Fleming-Hunter, a member of Cascade and the Program Director for University for Parents, invited me to participate in the Fall Kick Off Rally for " University for Parents " by offering the opening prayer. In addition, Susan L. Taylor, former editor of Essence Magazine and current CEO & Founder of The National CARES Mentoring Movement, was the key note speaker.  I imagine that-like me-- many of you are not familiar with "University for Parents. "  But, by the time I left the gathering on Monday, not only had I been enlightened and felt a greater appreciation for what the "University" is all about, but I was also reminded of how great the needs are for many of our parents.  At this point, I am also concerned that for many mothers and fathers, programs like "University for Parents" are their only hope.

The National CARES Mentoring Movement, along with their partners: Morehouse School of Medicine, United Way of Greater Atlanta, and Urban League of Greater Atlanta, launched the University for Parents.  It is a transformative community-wide and community - driven collaborative that is designed to extend academic and workforce support, as well as psychological support and direction, to aspiring parent s w ho need some assistance.  The University for Parents program is FREE!  Additionally, child care is provided.  It is open to parents, noncustodial parents, guardians, and caretakers of at least one child under 18 years old.

Naturally, I was so inspired by the work of the University for Parents that I wanted to give them a shout out! (You know how much I care about our "babies!") Of course, I want to encourage you to join me in praying for their continued success and community support. I also thought I would take this time to remind us that all of us know some parent or guardian of minor children who could use a little help--even if it is just from time to time.  My time at Atlanta Technical College raised my sensitivity to the vast needs of all parents.  Cascade, my hope is that this blog will raise your awareness and inspire you to do whatever you can to help parents and children.

Blessings,
Pastor Lawrence L. Young
