At their September meeting, the GCA Board of Directors approved a comprehensive plan for repairs and future maintenance of Glenmore's storm water infrastructure.  A report containing the proposals was developed by the new Storm Water Management Committee, and subsequently approved by the Common Area Review Board.  Repairs will start this year on the most serious problems, but more significant work will be included in the 2014 budget and beyond. Most of the work will involve repairs to various concrete structures surrounding grates and drop inlets, which have deteriorated due to settling of the ground, causing soil erosion.  Some work will also be directed towards improving water flows where ponding occurs.  The board expressed its appreciation of the thorough work performed by the Storm Water Management Committee, chaired by Larry Tropea.

You may have seen the beginning of work around the gatehouse, where pipes are been laid in a trench leading out towards Glenmore Way. This is where we are installing a water supply line, which will service not only the plantings at the gatehouse, but also at the junction with Piper Way and at the entrance area by Route 250.  Our thanks go to Chris Grant and the members of the CARB, who have worked with both VDOT and the Albemarle County Water Authority to satisfy their requirements. The GCA Board views this as an investment for the future, which will provide the ability to maintain more decorative flowering shrubs and plants in these areas, further enhancing the attractiveness of our community.

Residents with children, mark your calendar! The Glenmore Country Club has announced that it will be again hosting a Halloween Pizza Party at Highland Park (in the Scottish Homes area), for all residents and their families, at 5:30 PM on Thursday, October 31.

Prices: Cheese pizza $13, Pepperoni $14, includes tax, service, and beverages. A wine and beer bar for adults will be available.

 Here are the Fall Cleanup dates for your calendar, from our maintenance manager Frank Keplinger:

• Dumpsters available from November 3rd through November 11th.
• Limb and Branch Pickup begins November 12th.
• Leaf pickup December 2nd through week of December 16th.

  Most of the streams in Albemarle County are under stress from human activities and new development. An example is Carroll Creek, which flows through Glenmore, on its way to the Rivanna River. Water quality data is essential for regulators and community leaders to identify and resolve complex water quality challenges. Glenmore resident Larry Tropea has volunteered to periodically sample Carroll Creek as part of the local StreamWatch organization.
