Call for Presentations: 2017 WCISA Conference & Trade Show

We are looking for exciting presentations that will engage our attendees and offer them solutions and inspiration, along with practical information they can put to work when they go home.  This year's conference theme is Paradise Found: Plans, Partners, Progress - Arboriculture for Tomorrow.  The deadline for submissions is August 31!

Volunteers Needed for Statewide Tree Planting

WCISA has partnered with Invest from the Ground Up once again for a new state-wide tree planting event, CIRCLE.  The California Initiative to Reduce Carbon and Limit Emissions (CIRCLE) will take place Octber 22, 2016 in nine cities across California.  

Volunteer arborists are needed at each site to provide planting guidance to general volunteers.  

Cities include Anaheim, Baldwin Park, Bellflower, Ceres, Chula Vista, La Puente, Ontario, Paramount, and Tracy.

Chipper Safety and Maintenance featuring Andrew Misch

The brush chipper is one of the most common, and potentially hazardous tools that is used daily in the tree care profession. In addition to this, it is often the first piece of equipment that a new employee will use. When misused, these necessary machines are involved with almost 20 fatalities and several hundred serious injuries per year.

This applied workshop will cover basic operations and safety for chippers and will feature a classroom presentation and live outdoor demonstrations of the equipment's safety features.

Tree Risk Assessment Qualification

This 3-day course and exam is open to interested parties who meet the per-requires and is limited to 20 arborists (first-come/first-served). The qualification consists of a 2-day educational course followed by a 1/2 day assessment that includes both a written and field component. It is required that you attend the course and successfully complete the assessment in order to receive this qualification.  Registration closes on September 10, 2016 or when class is filled. All About Roots

Outside Influences on Urban Forest Health

Arboriculture Classes at Cuyamaca College
Fall 2016
El Cajon, CA

Three Arboriculture classes are offered this fall in the Ornamental Horticulture program at Cuyamaca College!  Safe Work Practices in Tree Climbing (OH264), Science in Practice for Arboriculture (OH266) and Urban Forestry (OH263). These are one-unit courses offered in a short format - from just 5 to 10 weeks. Our climbing class gives students an intensive training and hands-on learning experience in the basics of tree climbing and working with a chainsaw. Science in Practice will focus on the core subjects in the International Society of Arboriculture's Certified Arborist Exam. Urban Forestry covers basic concepts in this important and expanding sector of arboriculture.  Join us for all 3 classes to round out your education in Arboriculture! SHADE 2016: Southwest Horticulture Annual Day of Education
