Summer vacation might be ending, but that doesn't mean your kid has to stay out of the pool! We have a year-round swim team right here at SOAC! It is open for both members and non-members.
FROM OUR AQUATICS DIRECTOR:
First and foremost, this will be a USA Swimming competitive year-round swim team. We will be competing all over the state and maybe out of state against many other teams. When we go to a meet, we will be representing Tiger Aquatics.
When do we start?
**Tryouts for the team begin August 2nd-August 5th at 5pm. For this first week, swimmers are not required to stay for the entire hour, we will simply be doing a "mock" workout.
We are a year-round team! But we do have a week trial period at anytime. This is where we allow the kids to come check out the team for free to see if this is something they would like to do during the school year or thru the summer. After this period, we ask that you register with us to continue swimming!
Starting August 9th
- Sharks (generally 10 & up):
- Pups (9 and under):
Regarding the week try out period, we will place your kid into the Sharks or Pups according to their needs and skill level. Pups is typically 9 and under, Sharks 10 and up.
What kind of groups will there be?
We will have two different level groups. The Sharks and the Pups groups. The Sharks group will consist of the more experienced and typically older kids while the Pups group will be the developmental group where we will develop their cardio and technique. The Coaches will assign kids into groups based on the kid's need.
What will it cost?
The cost will vary depending on group and SOAC membership.

Is there a minimum requirement to be on the team?
Yes. The requirement to be on the team is for the swimmer to swim the full length of the pool (25 meters) doing freestyle AND backstroke (that is 50 meters total). The swimmer MUST appear in control the entire time and not appear to be struggling at all. An important note is that the swimmer could still meet this requirement but not be allowed to participate on the team. This is entirely up to the Head Coach's discretion.
This swim test will be given to every kid wanting to participate as the first thing they do in the water during the week trial period. If they do not pass the test then we will ask you if you would like to do private lessons through us and transition onto the team at a later date.
This seems strict, but a year-round team is much more competitive than a summer swim league and requires different guidelines in order to be successful.
What about non-members?
If you are a non-member but decide to join us on the team then you are allowed full participation to all swim team events. However, non-members will only be allowed pool access during swim team practice. Family members may watch, but are not allowed the usage of the big pool or the baby pool.
