As the season draws near, the month of August provides the perfect time for the NFF to highlight the key rule changes that will take effect during the 2016 college football season.  Since 2011, the NFF has partnered with  Rogers Redding , the national coordinator of College Football Officiating (CFO) to help generate awareness for the rule changes in college football.
Art Demmas , a highly respected NFL official, Vanderbilt Academic All-America lineman and the longtime NFF South Region Coordinator, passed away Aug. 6. He was 82. Demmas (right) is pictured above with NFF Chairman Archie Manning at the 51st NFF Annual Awards Dinner in 2008.
2016 NFF National Scholar-Athlete Nominations
Nomination forms for the NFF's coveted National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments, have been sent to collegiate sports information directors. The deadline for submissions will be Wednesday, Aug. 31.

Eligible candidates must be a senior or graduate student in their final year of eligibility; have a cumulative 3.2 GPA (undergrad); be a starter or significant contributor; and have outstanding leadership and citizenship. Official transcripts as well as a head shot and action photo of the nominee are required.

Each member of the NFF National Scholar-Athlete Class will receive an $18,000 postgraduate scholarship. One honoree will be selected as the winner of the NFF 
William V. Campbell Trophy , presented by Fidelity Investments, and will have his scholarship increased to $25,000. All members of the class will be honored guests at the 59th NFF Annual Awards Dinner at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City on Dec. 6.

New Exhibit
The Hall of Fame has debuted its limited engagement display in the Special Exhibit delivered by UPS: "All-Star Saturdays: A Century of America's Best." The exhibit features artifacts from the East-West Shrine Game, the College All-Star Game and a h ost  of artifacts and memorabilia from historic all-star games. 

Free Admission for All Active-Duty and Retired Military
All active duty and retired service men and women will now receive free admission to the Hall of Fame year-round with a  valid military ID.

Aug. 29, College Football Hall of Fame Golf Classic-  The Hall will host its second annual golf classic at Eastlake Golf Course in Atlanta on Monday, Aug. 29. Participating golfers will get the chance to play in a fivesome with a Hall of Famer. Registration will begin at 7 a.m. ET and tee time will start promptly at 9 a.m. The Hall will host an awards luncheon immediately following the tournament where prizes will be given to the first, second and third place winners. Prizes will also be awarded to the hole in one, closest to the pin and longest drive contest winners. For more information, please call (404) 880-4842. 

Aug. 30, Kickoff to Playoff Luncheon- The 2016 Kickoff to Playoff Luncheon brought to you by the College Football Hall of Fame and Chick-fil-A Fan Experience, the Atlanta Sports Council and the Chick-fil-A Peach Bowl will take place on the Hall's indoor football field on Tuesday, Aug. 30, at 11:30 a.m. ET. Hear from College Football Playoff Executive Director Bill Hancock and other sports industry leaders on the new college playoff system and the upcoming season. The College Football Hall of Fame opened its doors Aug. 23, 2014, in the heart of Atlanta's sports, entertainment and tourism district. The Blitz
College Football Hall of Famers Brian Bosworth (Oklahoma) and Billy Sims (Oklahoma) will be honored as part of AdvoCare V100 Texas Bowl's 2016 Class of Gridiron Legends during the game on Dec. 28. Also in the class are former Texas running back Eric Metcalf and CBS broadcaster Jim Nantz.

1998 Campbell Trophy winner Matt Stinchcomb (Georgia) and past NFF National Scholar-Athletes from Georgia, David Greene (2004) and Jon Stinchcomb (2002), recently visited patients at Children's Healthcare at Scottish Rite in Atlanta and also played wheelchair football with 17-year-old spinal bifida patient Tristan Phillips at the College Football Hall of Fame. 

NFF National Scholar-Athletes Steve Juday (1965) and Mike Sadler (2014) will be inducted into the Michigan State Athletics Hall of Fame on Sept. 22. Former football player Eric Allen will also be inducted.
Over The Middle
The NFF Columbus (Ohio) Chapter  is making a donation to the Columbus City league to purchase tackling dummies for the high schools.

The NFF New York City Chapter will host a luncheon Aug. 15 at the New York Athletic Club, featuring remarks from Fordham coach Andrew Breiner and Holy Cross head coach Tom Gilmore (a 1985 NFF National Scholar-Athlete from Penn). Both coaches will throw out the first pitch that night at the New York Yankees game to promote the Nov. 12 Ram-Crusader Cup game at Yankee Stadium. College Football Hall of Famer Don McPherson (Syracuse) will emcee the event, and Yankees Non-Baseball Events Executive Director and the Executive Director of the New Era Pinstripe Bowl,  Mark Holtzman , will also participate as a special guest.

The NFF Valley of the Sun (Ariz.) Chapter will host a 2016-17 season kickoff event Aug. 16 at Minder Binder restaurant in Tempe, Ariz.

The Nebraska Football Hall of Fame, which is sponsored by the NFF Nebraska Chapter, will hold its 2016 induction dinner on the University of Nebraska campus on Sept. 9. The class will be introduced prior to Nebraska's game with Wyoming on Sept. 10. This year's class includes former Huskers Kris BrownAdam CarrikerScott Raridon and Dean Sukup and former Doane (Neb.) player Fred Davis.

The NFF Tom Lombardo/St. Louis Chapter will host its annual Paul Savage Sr. Memorial Golf Tournament on Sept. 11 at Columbia Golf Club in Columbia, Ill. Proceeds from the tournament go toward the chapter's scholarship program.

Since 1959, the National Football Foundation has annually recognized the best and brightest college players, presenting them with prestigious NFF National Scholar-Athlete Awards, presented by Fidelity Investments. The $18,000 postgraduate scholarships are presented at the NFF Annual Awards Dinner in New York City. 

Launched in 2008, the NFF Scholar-Athlete Alumni Association provides a powerful vehicle for past honorees to remain in the vanguard of the NFF's present efforts.
