Survey: CASL Experiences
Imagine Canada, Toronto, ON
Canada's Anti-Spam Law (CASL) came into force just over two years ago. Imagine Canada was an active intervenor in its passage and implementation and, with others, we were successful in securing key concessions for charities.  The law includes a requirement that its "provisions and operations" be reviewed by Parliament - this is due to occur in 2017.

In preparation, we would like to hear about your organization's experiences with CASL, so that we can accurately represent the charitable and nonprofit sector's perspective to government.
With that in mind, we have prepared a brief online survey. It should take between five and seven minutes to complete. It is anonymous and all responses will be kept confidential.  We will be producing a public summary report of survey responses. If you wish to be sent a copy directly, you can indicate this in your response.

Consequently, these magnificent seven where handpicked by an independent selection committee from an overwhelming amount of submissions and have been in play development mode with Infinithéâtre for quite some time. These seven original works are ready for a public reading and reflect The English-Language Communities and Diversity of Québec.  The staged readings are designed to garner interest from Artistic Directors across Québec and Canada in their future programming of plays.

Submissions & Nominations

Call for Submissions: Reframing the Stage
AD HOC Assembly and LMDA Canada
Deadline: August 31, 2016
ADHOC Assembly and LMDA Canada launch a forward-looking inquiry into best practises for identity-conscious casting. A diametric alternative to colour blind casting, identity conscious productions incorporate the identities of cast and creative team members as an acknowledged and incorporated narrative element. This approach considers the implications of age, race, gender, physical ability, etc. within the story being told. (A play is herein defined as a performative source document)

This is a call for proposals for identity-conscious / non-traditionally cast productions of Canadian work. We invite the community at large to join us in imagining future stagings of Canadian work that incorporate identity alongside the other contextual considerations which factor into our varied interpretive practises. Artists are invited to submit proposals that situate a Canadian work within a specific context (e.g. historical, regional, linguistic, gender or cultural relocation). Proposals should offer reasoning for the approach to the proposed production, and articulate the interpretive impact of this choice on the story being presented to audiences. While this project is dramaturgically driven, submissions are welcome from all arts practitioners regardless of training, discipline, culture, ethnicity, ability, experience, affiliation or role. Collaboratively devised proposals are welcome.

Canada Council for the Arts, Ottawa, ON
Deadline: October 31, 2016
The Canada Council for the Arts is marking the 150th Anniversary of Confederation by creating a special program to support the creation and sharing of exceptional artistic and literary works. It will result in inspiring works that interpret the world we live in and envision our shared future. These works will encourage public engagement in the arts and will promote outreach locally, nationally and internationally.

The purpose of the program is to:
  • offer all Canadians a wide array of powerful, daring, and exceptional artistic experiences
  • provide artists, artists' groups/collectives and arts organizations with means to take greater risks and develop projects on a greater scale and scope than their usual activities. These one-time projects will serve to advance their own development and that of their arts practices.
  • strengthen the presence of the arts in conversations about the future of the country, locally, nationally and internationally.
