Professional Learning Standards
LEADERSHIP

Cohorts 5 & 6 have been studying standards for professional learning found on learningforward.org

This month we will unpack the LEADERSHIP standard a bit more with a wonderful blog from edweek.org:

[Change is] accomplished with leaders who turn into the future with the realization that the future is here, now. The leader makes the turn alone, as each of us must, but the leader role demands the qualities it takes to make others want to join the turn and take the journey. The leader's capacity to develop coalitions is imperative. Each coalition builds the momentum and expands the advocate base for change.
If you want to build a ship, don't drum up people to collect wood and don't assign them tasks and work, but rather teach them to long for the endless immensity of the sea. ~ Antoine de Saint-Exupery

Giving someone the space and time to explain their feelings is one way that leaders can take control of emotional situations, Marlene Chism writes. "When someone shares any opinion, listening requires you to simply focus on the other person and see things for one moment from their point of view," Chism writes.

Gardiner Scholarship Updates
Welcome Back for another exciting school year!
There were just a few changes in legislation this year regarding the Gardiner Scholarship.  Some of the highlights that pertain to schools are:
  • Addition of Phelan McDermid syndrome as a diagnosis  http://rarediseases.org/rare-diseases/phelan-mcdermid-syndrome/
  • Funding is now prorated based on the date the student is found eligible by the SFO
  • When submitting a reimbursement request for tuition and fees, a NEW, DIGITAL reimbursement request form is now available (see Handbook)
There are some process improvements in how SUFS supports the Gardiner scholarship, so please make sure to visit the new, revised Provider Handbook at   https://www.stepupforstudents.org/for-schools-providers/how-the-plsa-scholarship-works/provider-handbook/ for updated information!

Schools can also assist parents in locating updated information by referring them to the Gardiner Scholarship Provider Handbook at https://www.stepupforstudents.org/for-parents/special-needs/apply-now/parent-handbook/

PLEASE NOTE:  It is very important that schools maintain parent confidentiality and privacy by never accepting a parents' Gardiner ID and password to log on to their child's account.   Refer parents to [email protected] for general assistance with their accounts.
 FRIENDLY REMINDER
Scholarship documentation is only done ONLINE
Please remember that the Jacksonville and Clearwater office are not designed or equipped to take documents.
The application process for both FTC and Gardiner are
online submission processes only.
Please do not direct parents to these offices as they will unfortunately be asked to submit online.
