"John Wesley United Methodist Church is a neighborhood church in Houston Texas. We are mission focused and try to serve our brothers and sisters in our local neighborhoods and around the world. We have had a relationship with a community in Haiti called Beaudchita for about 3 years.

In a fit of late night web surfing, we found Just Haiti and their strong presence in Haiti. After some successful due diligence on both our parts, we were invited to join the Just Haiti program and could not be more pleased. We love the fact that the program offers benefits to both sides; we get to enjoy their coffee and they get to enjoy our support for their hard work. The program has brought our two communities closer together; we know them better and they know us better.

 

To date, we have about 20 growers in the program. They have been trained and are busy tending their crops for the fall harvest. We received very good feedback on the training program and everyone learned a lot. We also have another 28 growers who have asked to join the program so word seems to have gotten out.

The last Sunday of the month is Haiti coffee Sunday at our church where we sell Just Haiti coffee. We put up pictures and tell the stories of our work in Haiti. It offers a great opportunity to support the coffee program but also continue to develop our relationship with Beaudachita.

We would like to give a big shout out to the folks at Just Haiti for operating a program that is economically sound, sustainable and allows both our communities to grow closer together.
