2016 LO300 - A Classic Challenge in Race History!

Over 100 boats crossed the Start Line on Saturday, July 16th to compete in either the long 300 nm course (Main Duck), or the shorter 200 nm course (Scotch Bonnet). Fourteen of those in the Main Duck challenge had also registered to circumnavigate Lake Ontario twice as part of the 2nd running of the LO600 Challenge.

The results are in. Congratulations to all racers who took the podium and/or won a trophy. This was a tough year to finish and winning a flag or trophy makes it a special victory. I've provided a link below to a list of trophy winners, photo contest winners and winners of the Team Challenge. Check it all out.

A huge thank you from PCYC and LOOR to all our sponsors and supporters who's support helped enormously in the successful running of the 2016 Lake Ontario 300 & 600 Challenges presented by driveHG.ca. It couldn't have happened without you.

The Perseverance Trophy is awarded when there is a case where a yacht has persevered hardships to finish this challenge. It was started in 2009 and has not been awarded every year, but after a race like this there are a few stories that may qualify. We ask that you submit your stories to [email protected] in consideration for the Perseverance Trophy.

Eight bells.
Derek Hatfield, one of Canada's most respected sailors, has passed away at the age of 63 after a brief illness. Derek was one of us, started his sailing career in the Single-handed Racing Society (now LOSHRS) on Lake Ontario, raced in the LO300 back in the 1990's, and we all know what he went on to accomplish on the international stage. Our thoughts are with his wife Patianne, their children and extended family at this difficult time.

Book it, Danno!

Tracking the 300

During the LO300/600 there were a small number of boats that experienced some technical issues with the YB trackers. The transmission problem was not discovered until most competitors had finished the race. During and immediately after the race some may have viewed their race track and that of others and come to an erroneous conclusion concerning mark roundings.

The organizing committee launched an investigation with YB as soon as we became aware of the situation. The committee apologies for any confusion and dismay this may have caused as we took appropriate measures to protect the integrity of all competitors and the race itself. We are already reviewing upgrades to YB trackers for next year to eliminate the possibility of a repeat error.

Thank you for your understanding in the matter.
