Being Great Tomorrow Depends On What You Do Tonight

Ever wonder what is propelling the people who are getting ahead in your organization? A lot of it is how they spend that time between today's quitting time and tomorrow's opening of business.

Lolly Daskal recently wrote an article for Inc. to clue us in on how to spend our evenings. Here are some of her tips:

Read to learn: "Growth requires learning, and the more topics you're engaged and interested in, the more effective you can be. If you set aside some time to read in the evening, you'll find it's a relaxing way to expand your horizons."

Spend time with people you care about: "These are the people who bring out the best in you, the ones whose support and caring can fuel you through hard times."

Make time to do nothing: " Turn off the screens and the sounds, find a quiet corner, and quiet your mind. You can choose to engage in structured meditation or prayer or just concentrate on your breath."

Take stock : "Ask yourself what's working and what's not, what needs your attention, what developments are significant."

Work out: " Especially if you've spent the entire day at your desk, don't go to bed until you've found a way to move your body."

Get organized: " Do as much as you can in the evening to organize and prepare for the morning. You'll sleep better knowing that the next day is likely to have a calm, effective start."

Express gratitude: " Gratitude makes you more positive and optimistic, which in turn helps more good things happen."

That's something to sleep on.

NHS Global Events Core Value #1: Always Be On

Let Your Next Meeting Catch A Wave

"When it comes to finding a great meeting venue, we're always looking for a unique experience for our clients," says NHS Global Events Sourcing Specialist Bailey Shultz. "We've just hit on another. This place even has its own Surf Butler!"

We're talking about the Paséa Hotel & Spa in Huntington Beach, CA located 11 miles from John Wayne airport in Orange County. The location is a continental paradise with brilliant sunrises and sunsets, ten miles of uninterrupted sandy beaches and shopping in charming downtown boutiques. And every Tuesday night, the city's downtown transfers into an open air marketplace with local art, fresh food and live music.

Paséa Hotel & Spa is the latest addition to the Meritage Collection and offers a blend of modern amenities, luxury accommodations and beach-induced relaxation. Its Aarna Spa is Balinese inspired with eight indoor treatment areas and a fitness center.

Paséa is wonderful for relaxed meetings and memorable events. The hotel offers over 34,000 square feet of meeting space in 11 meeting rooms, including the oceanfront Blue Room and the Sapphire Ballroom. The Ocean Lawn has stunning views with custom fire pits.

Now about that Surf Butler. Huntington Beach has appropriately been nicknamed Surf City, USA. Paséa's butler will assist you with scheduling surf lessons, provide daily wave reports and anything else needed to enjoy the surf culture.

NHS Global Events is ready to help you book your next unique meeting getaway. Surf's up!

NHS Global Events Core Value #2: The Best Idea Doesn't Exist Yet

Know Of What You Speak

Hip became neato became groovy became cool. Then there was phat, bad, rad, sick and, eventually, awesome. You hang around here long enough and the nomenclature will change. You know you're in trouble when you aren't sure which one to use at that very moment in time.

NHS Global Events Sourcing Manager Sarah Veldhuis knows that it's important to be tapped in to the language of the moment. "Whether it's the latest industry jargon or digital speak on social media, always be in the know," says Sarah. "Plus we have to make sure [NHS Global Events President] Bill Lynch can decode the daily office talk."

Having the privilege of working with many Millennials, Bill was recently introduced to the term  FOMO, or fear of missing out. In case you feel out of the loop and need a primer of some other phrases du jour, Sarah has provided a mini-cheat sheet:

Adulting =  To do grown up things and hold responsibilities
Sorry Not Sorry =  You are a little sorry, but you also want to make fun of the idea of being sincerely apologetic when it is not deserved.
The Struggle is Real = Annoyed. Denotes a situation where the user wishes to express that they are encountering some sort of undesirable difficulty, but dealing with it. Often used ironically for the comical effect of dramatizing a non-critical, yet undesirable situation.
On Fleek = On Point or Perfect
YOLO  = You Only Live Once

So is there any value to being up to date on the lexicon as it's being communicated by the latest generation? Says Bill, "The great thing about the ever-changing language is that with each generation we learn new things, new ways of viewing the world and new ways of communicating. FOMO is a feeling we've all understood growing up no matter the generation, and now we have a new way to communicate it."

So rest assured, when you call NHS Global Events, we'll be able to speak your language, no matter if you grew up in the era of sock hops, discos, mosh pits or raves.
