Community Meeting Re: 441-447 W Arlington Place

You are invited to join the Park West Community Association (PWCA) and my office at a community meeting to review the proposed redevelopment of 441 - 447 W. Arlington Place.   My office will be present at this meeting to monitor the discussion, take notes and record your  feedback.

WHAT:     Proposed Redevelopment of 441 - 447 W. Arlington Place

WHO:   Hosted by Alderman Michele Smith and Park West Community Association

WHEN:   Thursday, August 18th at 6:00 PM

WHERE: Gaslight Bar and Grille, 2450 N Clark Street

The project, in the Arlington & Roslyn Landmark District, contains a  single family home and a vacant lot. The applicant seeks to rehabilitate the existing single  family home and build a 4-story, 8-unit residential structure with 14 parking stalls, two of which will be reserved for the existing home.

The parcel currently has two underlying zoning designations: the Arlington Place  frontage, classified as an RM-5, and the rear of the lot, B1-2. The applicant is  seeking zoning approvals to eliminate the B1-2 designation and make the entire site an RM-5  designation.

I hope you can join my office and PWCA to meet directly the development team to  gain a better understanding of this proposal and answer your questions.

Food offerings include an abundance of traditional Japanese cuisine and beer. Performances include taiko drumming, martial arts, and Kendo, plus a Saturday night performance by  Yoko Noge and her band, Jazz Me Blues . This is a 43rd Ward tradition - see the lineup of events here

Please Observe Fire Station Safety Striping

With Firefighters at Engine Co. 22 and LCA Pres. Ken Dotson
Chicago Fire Department (CFD) Engine 22, at 605 W Armitage, and CFD Engine 55, at 2619 N Halsted, recently received new street striping in front of the stations. Engine 22 also  had larger Fire Station signage installed.

Please observe this striping and stay out of the area when fire trucks are exiting or backing back into the station.

Special thanks to Lincoln Central Association  for bringing these needed public safety needs to our attention.

With Alderman David Moore of the 17th Ward
MLK Memorial Dedication

I was proud to join my fellow aldermen and many other public officials to celebrate the dedication of a memorial to Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at Marquette Park last Friday.

This important monument commemorates the 50th anniversary of Dr. King's historic 1966 march through Marquette Park for fair housing in Chicago.  Read more here.  Longtime 43rd Ward resident Don Rose was press secretary to the Freedom Movement and wrote an account recently in the Sun-Times.
Edith Spurlock Sampson BBQ Fest

All had a wonderful time with the seniors at the Edith Spurlock Sampson Apartments, 2640 and 2720 N Sheffield at their first annual
barbecue fest last Saturday. Behind us are the gardens for which my office collected tools to help seniors garden with ease. Thanks to Ward residents who generously donating gardening tools.
