NOTE FROM THE PRINCIPAL

Welcome to the 2016-17 School Year!
I am extremely excited to be writing my first newsletter to you as the new principal at South View. It is my sincere hope you are all enjoying a peaceful and rejuvenating summer break. I have met some of you since being hired back in late April and have been truly impressed by your welcome, engagement in our school and community, and investment in South View and our students.

South View Spirit
It is wonderful to sense the Spirit of South View that is clearly evident and embodied by our staff and students. I look forward to hearing more about the heart, diversity and excellence clearly present in this institution of learning. I am so humbled to begin making this my new home and join this team of dedicated professionals and serve this wonderful community where I live.

Looking forward
It is that time of year when we start thinking about the start of school. School starts Monday, August 29 th . We are excited about this upcoming year and the many learning opportunities for your student. To get your student ready for the school year, we invite you to attend Get Connected Day (GCD) on August 16 th from 11:00 am to 7:00 pm . You can drop in anytime and take care of business. It is also a great time to see friends that you have not seen this summer. During GCD you can deposit money into your student's lunch account, have your student's picture taken for an ID and yearbook, pay any overdue book fines, sign up for the Parent Teacher Organization (PTO), turn in immunizations, purchase a lock and find your locker and figure out where your classes are meeting. Please see the GCD checklist for more details.

We have a very active and engaged community and welcome you to be involved at South View. We would love to have you volunteer your time and energy, based on your talents and interests. The PTO is looking for volunteers for Get Connected Day. They will also be searching for help with the Ice Cream Social on Sept. 8 th prior to the Back to School night for parents and the Fall Fest on Sept. 23 th . Other opportunities also exist, so feel free to connect with the volunteer coordinator, Sue Claar, and stay tuned for more information forthcoming.

In closing, I hope you enjoy the last few weeks of summer and we look forward to seeing you soon on Get Connected Day!

-Tim Anderson, Ed. D., Principal

Schedules
Schedules will be available on Aug. 16th. The District Office is sending information to each family with instructions on how to use the new portal and access schedules. Please print your schedule and bring with you to Get Connected Day and note that schedules are not final and changes may be made before the first day of school.

Immunizations
All 7 th graders must have current immunizations on record with the health office prior to the start of the school year. Please contact the Welcome desk at the community center if you have questions about that. Otherwise, you can bring them into school on Get Connected Day. Thanks for your attention to this.

Pick up/Drop off
If you choose to drive your student, please drop them off by the theatre or pool at doors 6 or 7. Please enter the ECC parking lot and make the entire loop around the lot to drop off on the SV building side. Please do not cut through the parking lot.  This is the safest route. You may also drop off students across from the back parking lot on a side street  and then have your students cross at the crosswalk. Cars are not permitted in the back parking lot or the front circle between 7:15 and 7:45 am and 2:15 and 2:45 pm since that is where a majority of our buses unload students. Thanks for your help in getting all student into school safely!
