 PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE
President's Message
Ellen Onstad CSI, CDT, Chapter President

It's the beginning of a new fiscal year here at CSI -- a time for summer vacations, mid-year reviews, and back to school shopping for the kids. Here at CSI, we were also in planning mode and strategizing our goals and plan to best serve our members.

Our annual planning and strategy session was held on July 6th. Our new board members as well as our faithful and loyal past board members were in attendance to map out the future of Portland Chapter CSI. We brainstormed some exciting ideas to not only strengthen our membership, but grow our education offerings and our fun/networking events.

Just this month we have the SOLD OUT CSI Golf tournament at Lewis River Golf Course on the 25th, and the very next day is the PRAXIS LIVE concrete event. Information on both of those are located in this newsletter and on our website. Learning & Libations Series have some exciting tours and presentations planned this next fiscal year, and the Programs Committee also has some great stuff on the horizon.

A huge thank you goes out to the outgoing board members- Corey Morris as Secretary, Linda Jones and Kathy Hempel serving as Directors. And be sure to welcome our new board members, Ali Clark as President Elect, Jake LaManna as Secretary, and Kourtney, Alexei, and Geoff as our new Directors. We honored they have chosen to serve and happy to have such devoted and talented professionals on our board.

Let the Golfing Begin

golf2.jpg This year's Annual CSI Golf Tournament Is August 25th at Lewis River Golf Club. It will be a 12:30 PM shot gun start. Prizes will be awarded for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd, KP, LD, Longest Putt and Straight Drive and of course team that tries the hardest. There will be Raffle tickets sold as well for some great prizes donated by our sponsors.

The CSI Annual Golf Tournament is a fund raising event for our Scholarships. Scholarships are given out for those that want to further their education in the AEC industry by taking the CDT Exam or next level exams. Your sponsorship and participation in this event allows CSI to help members in the AEC Industry and those emerging professionals that someday may be working with us in this wild and crazy industry. Please help make this year a success and participate in the golf tournament. You don't have to be a pro to play, just have to know how to have fun.  If you are just not a golfer in any way shape or form, you can be a sponsor and help that way. Come out and network, man a tee box, play games and give out prizes. You can also donate Raffle Prizes for after dinner.  Got some Swag you wanna get out there to help promote your firm? This is the perfect chance to do so.

It's a lot of fun! You're out of the office in the sun networking, laughing, and enjoying the day. HOW AWESOME IS THAT!

Architectural Scavenger Hunt Recap
Alicia Clark, CSI, Programs Committee Chair

Last month's Annual Architectural Scavenger Hunt was a lot of fun. We had three teams that matched all the buildings with the clues correctly! Our winning team was able to finish the hunt in only 20 minutes, although they did have a few neighborhood residents to help them out. Next year we will have to make the clues a little harder.
A big thank you to Kourtney Strong with BLRB for helping me put the clues together, and to Leslie Case with Laird Plastic for sponsoring the happy hour! Keep an eye out for our upcoming programs this fall. We are taking August off so that everyone can enjoy the Golf Tournament August 25 th (there are still a few sponsorship spots open!), and we will be back September 13 th with out Annual Building Tour. We are still working out the details, but you can be sure of a fun and educational construction tour!
