A Message from the Director

It's the Dogs Days of Summer or 33 days to Cougar Football!
 
This summer has been very good so far. The groups are on, or over their numbers, and the guest evaluations remain high. That is thanks to the great staff we have.
 
Be on the lookout for Seabeck gear around the Puget Sound. The Seabeck Mercantile has been a great success. We sold 218 Seabeck items in July. The fun part of wearing items with our logo is all the people commenting on how they know Seabeck. I was at a conference center in rural Maryland and had a lady tell me she had been to Seabeck. If you have a story like that please share it with us.
 
I had two completely different moments of philanthropy this week. Each was fulfilling and they happened just hours a part. The first was when a long time Seabeck guest came into my office and pledged a large amount to the Pines Campaign that hasn't even started. He had invested in the Centennial Campaign and raised his gift for Pines. The second was from a shy six-year-old. He came in with his grandma and summoned up the courage, after a little coaxing, to ask me why the peddle boats had disappeared from the lagoon. As it happened, I was ordering the parts to repair the broken boats and showed him the parts diagram and what needed replaced. He wandered off and then came back with 5 quarters. He wanted to donate to Seabeck to help get the boats back into the water. I thanked him and made him the youngest member of the Friends of Seabeck. A six-year-old figured out that things at Seabeck that break cost money to replace and decided to give until it hurt. Some older donors in his family provided a stretch pool that reached over $100. Wow! The future is indeed bright. These two gifts, one of the largest and one of smallest I have received, were both inspirational to me. It makes me even more excited to start working on Pines.
 
Speaking of Pines, plans are moving forward. We plan to launch the Pines Capital Campaign in early 2017 with hopes of starting construction in June of 2018. We will be constructing more than a building; we will be securing Seabeck's future for future generations. A revitalized Pines will help make Seabeck stronger and continue the little economic engine we have started. It's an exciting era to be involved with Seabeck!

If you know who this family is, please let us know. We have a stack of picture cd's from Costco in the Seabeck office. There are some important moments in their lives, including graduation and wedding pictures. New Rowboats at Seabeck

There are three new rowboats in the lagoon for guest use. The Peck family donated them for everyone to enjoy, naming them the  Blue Nose, Papa Bear and Mac & Marge.
