Kansas City Cowboys for Cops
Friday, August 5th, Kansas City  
Kansas City Cowboys For Cops is a group of equine enthusiasts who want to show support for local Law Enforcement Officers. Hosted by the Jackson County Sheriffs Mounted Posse the event is on Friday, August 5th. The KCPD Mounted Patrol Unit will be lead the ride.

Parking will be at the Hale/Kemper Arena Parking Lot B. Gates open by 7 AM. Riders will be leaving the American Royal Complex at 9:30 am and riding to Liberty Memorial where there will be a presentation for the families of fallen officers.The group will ride back together to the American Royal complex. Total is 4.3 miles to and from Liberty Memorial with an estimation of 2 to 3 hours.

This event has full police escort to and from Liberty Memorial with rolling street closures. Please visit the Kansas City Cowboys For Cops FaceBook page for ride route and other information.

Horses and horse drawn vehicles are welcome as well as decorated trucks. No parade floats please. NEGATIVE COGGINS REQUIRED. No rider fees. Donations can be made to the Jackson County Sheriffs Mounted Posse who will be contributing the funds to First Responders.

HORSE CARE 101
Dr. Temple Grandin to speak at Horse Care 101

When:  December 3, 2017
Where: KSU College of Veterinary Medicine, Frick Auditorium

Our featured speaker this year at Horse Care 101 will be Dr. Temple Grandin!  Tickets aren't on sale yet but you'll want to be one of the first 200 to sign up to get prime seating.  More information will be released soon on the Kansas Horse Council website, www.kansashorsecouncil.com.

Dr. Grandin is an autistic American professor of animal science at Colorado State University, world-renowned autism spokesperson and consultant to the livestock industry on animal behavior. She is widely celebrated as one of the first individuals on the autism spectrum to publicly share insights from her personal experience of autism. She is also the inventor of the " hug box", a device to calm those on the autism spectrum. In the 2010 Time 100, an annual list of the one hundred most influential people in the world, she was named in the "Heroes" category. She was the subject of the award-winning, semi-biographical film, Temple Grandin.

Specialty License Plates
Horse license plates - how many have you spotted?

There are more and more KHC horse license plates on the road and they look great!  You don't have to wait till it's time to renew your plate, just take your current tag in and trade it in for the horse plate.  They're available at every county treasurers' office for an annual fee of $30 and a one-time $50 charge due to the State of Kansas at the time of purchase.
Show your horse pride and display this plate! Plates are available for everyone, not just KHC members plus you can get one for your trailer!

Conference and Skills Workshop 
September 10 - 11, 2016  
Laramie County Community College, Cheyenne, WY

The Certified Horsemanship Association's (CHA) Region 9 Conference takes place on Sept. 10-11, 2016, at the Laramie County Community College in Cheyenne, Wyoming. New this year, a skills workshop focused on practice lessons to prepare for becoming certified as a riding instructor or for CHA Instructors to increase their level of certification. The Skills Workshop is offered Saturday. CHA Chief Executive Officer and Master Instructor Christy Landwehr is the Workshop Clinician. 
 
CHA Instructors Change Lives Through Safe Experiences with Horses. The purpose of CHA is to promote excellence in safety and education for the benefit of the horse industry. CHA certifies instructors and trail guides, accredits equestrian facilities, publishes educational manuals, produces educational horsemanship DVDs and YouTube Safety shorts, and hosts regional and international conferences. Norman came to us from Sedgwick County Animal Control who picked him up after he was found wandering around a neighborhood. His owner could not be located
