It Was Meant to Be
Duffy Grant
Recently, a family requested a PAWS Therapy Team come to Nemours/AI duPont Hospital for Children when they had an appointment. The PAWS office found out a bit too late that the family had to cancel to let Carolyn Grant & her therapy companion, Duffy, know. Here is her note about what happened.

'We did go. Although, I think it was meant to be.

'Duffy and I stayed for awhile since we were there. We had several routine visits until we saw a woman who was visibly very upset. She had a friend with her trying to console her. Duffy left the crowd and went straight to her to sit at her feet!!!! She immediately leaned over and started to pet him and broke into a grin. "Just what I needed,"  she said through her tears. Duffy continued to sit with her until she was called to a exam room. When she left she said, "Thank you, Duffy." Everyone who witnessed this was amazed, a few teared up. "How did he know?" some asked. "That is what pet therapy is all about," I replied.

'I am so glad we went.'
Wag-n-Walk: October 22
Wow, can you believe that it's August?  That means the Wag-n-Walk is less than three months away!  The good news is you have plenty of time to fund-raise and build your team. In fact, we want to help you do just that!

This month's challenge is to recruit other members for your Wag-n-Walk team. If you have at least eight members on your team by the end of August, you'll be entered into a special prize drawing. Create your team at  www.pawsforpeople.org/wagnwalk  and then  email your friends and family and invite them to register and join your team.

At the end of August, we'll draw 1 lucky qualifying team to receive a $50 Wawa card.  So get out there and find some friends to join your team!

Sheri Kearns & Piper
Sheri joined PAWS for People in 2014 with her Maltese/poodle mix, Piper. A dedicated PAWS for Reading team in the PA libraries, this team also spends lots of time at PAWS community events, including the Barnes & Noble book wrapping festivities. Recently, Sheri & Piper also began weekly visits at A.I. duPont Hospital for Children| Nemours in the Emergency Department. What a great team!
Nina and Mike Flaherty & Lucy
This trio of a team, Nina and Mike Flaherty with their standard poodle, Lucy, has been with PAWS for just over a year and has participated in a variety of activities. In addition to visits at Manor House and the Seaford Library, they have travelled to other libraries throughout Sussex County to fill-in as subs. They regularly attend community events, near and far, and have even represented PAWS on local television. What a great team!

Sites to Celebrate
Whitman Library
PAWS opened its second library in Philadelphia in July. Six happy kids read to PAWS for Reading Team Bella and Tawny Clark! PAWS is offering Monday night sessions (6:00 PM) at this library throughout the summer and will add a fall program soon!
