Area Rides for August 2016
I hope that you are not missing out on all these great rides because it's hot out there. When you give the heat the respect it deserves, you build fitness and get stronger while getting leaner. Check out our Cycling Tip at the bottom of the newsletter.

Looking for rides in the weeks ahead? We've got a list of great rides and a NEW local option where you can experience the same great service that our HHH Train Smart clients enjoy. Check it out and get out there for a bike ride soon!.
Granbury - August 6

Just remember that the countryside around Granbury is NOT FLAT. You will have some hills to contend with, so save some energy and keep your mind right!

They offer routes of 20, 40. 62 and 75 miles. The ride starts at 7:30am for the longer routes, with the rest following shortly after.

Pottsboro - August 13

Bob Appolito has been telling me for years that Joe Brown and his crew do an excellent job with their ride. While not the biggest ride in the area, they care about every rider and want to make sure that their ride gets better every year. They start rolling out the 100 mile riders at 7am, with the 80, 62, 42, 25 and 8 milers departing later.
Vernon - August 20

The Vernon Jaycees have a ride the weekend before the HHH so that you can ride in conditions and scenery very similar to the Wichita Falls area. Their routes of 12, 22, 38 and 62 miles start at 7:30am

Hot, Hilly Rides - Blue Ridge
9/6, 9/13 and 9/20

If you are looking for a local ride with a smaller group of riders as you get in some good miles, try our HHRides. We have a route that we have been using for years to help our clients get ready for the HHH and this year we are expanding our invitation to you. We'll take a limited number of riders with routes from 42 to 87 miles. The cost is just $25 per rider. Click the link below for more information.

HHH - August 27
Wichita Falls

The thing I noticed in 1987 at my first Hotter 'N Hell Hundred was the ENERGY. You could feel it in the air as the riders came together for the start of the ride. There's nothing like being on the start line with 13,000 riders surrounding you. Just make sure you are ready for the ride or it won't be fun!

Speaking of fun, they have a consumer expo, a mountain bike race, a trail run PLUS competitive cycling in the form of criteriums and road races. It's a Texas Sized Happening with an amazing amount of support from the local communities.
Are you focused on riding?

What do you focus on when you ride? Speed? Cadence? Power? Heart rate? The wheel in front of you? If you are still searching for a "good ride", try this: The next time you ride, go on your own. Ride your own rhythm and at a pace that allows you to enjoy the ride. Focus on the process of riding - breathing, pedaling, shifting gears to stay in rhythm, eating, drinking and staying relaxed in the saddle. When you discover the balance between effort and ease, you will find a whole new way of riding.
