19.6% Workers' Comp Rate Increase 
The Board of Directors of the South Lake Chamber of Commerce voted unanimously to oppose a 19.6% increase in workers' compensation insurance rates by working with the Florida Chamber of Commerce and fellow members of the Florida Chamber Coalition.  "We are committed to supporting a legislative remedy for this proposed increase that is harmful to local business," said South Lake Chamber President David Colby. New Beginnings received $19 million in state funding to build a 96-unit, three-story apartment complex in Clermont in order to bring more affordable housing to the area. Read more in the Daily Commercial and the Orlando Sentinel.

Goodwill Industries of Central Florida was awarded $280,000 by the U.S. Department of Labor to continue their program which provides hand-on job counseling and housing assistance to homeless veterans. This award will also allow them to expand the program into Lake County. Read more.

Sydney Finds a Job is now in Uganda. When Father Ponce, director of Our Lady of the Sick Health Unit, a medical mission in Kambaala, Uganda supported by the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, visited Central Florida recently, he met with Sydney's human family. Impressed with Sydney's work, Father Ponce asked Read to Sydney to donate a book to his school.
