The 2016 Clermont County Fair just wrapped up. We want to thank those who attended the Salute to Veterans, Troops and Their Families on July 24, organized each year by Commissioner Bob Proud. Special thanks to our speakers, Congressman  Brad Wenstrup , a lieutenant colonel in the U.S. Army Reserve, and Sheriff Tim Rodenberg, a former U.S. Marines captain. And a very special tip of the hat to Charlie Bailey, 94 of Owensville, a World War II Army veteran

served on the front lines in Europe, and fought in the Battle of the Bulge. Mr. Bailey was  awarded five Bronze Stars for his service. It was a great honor to have him lead us in the Pledge!

We also were delighted at the many kids, adults, and families who stopped by our booth to get their picture taken! We have more than 200 pictures posted on our Facebook page - check it out!

Directed patrols aimed at drugged drivers

Sheriff's Office coordinates resources to crack down on drivers

Deputy Jeff Rudd speaks with a driver during a recent directed patrol.
Deputy Jeff Rudd talks to a driver pulled over during a recent directed patrol.
Since April, the Clermont County Sheriff's Office has conducted six "directed patrols" -- coordinated efforts targeted at those driving while under the influence of drugs. To date, the patrols have made 116 traffic stops, leading to many arrests. "We were getting complaints from citizens driving to work in the morning, saying that they were seeing people weave on the road, or going left of center again and again. They would say, 'it's obvious these people are on drugs,'" said Chief Deputy Steve Leahy. "This is the time of day when addicts are waking up, getting together with other users, and then going out to buy drugs."
