Lehigh Valley Wine Trail
August 2016
Fall is the right time to wine!

The heat of the summer leads right into harvest season in September which kicks of a series of fall events along our wine trail. Autumn is a great time of year to visit our nine family-owned and operated wineries with your friends to sample and purchase the wines you love while enjoying the outdoors. Hours for all three events are Saturday - 11am - 5 pm, and Sunday noon - 5 pm.

(Each of these events is free to attend, though some wineries charge a fee for wine tasting, tours or live music.)

Harvest Weekend - September 10 & 11
Join us to celebrate harvest season when our wineries will proudly promote the state's Pennsylvania Preferred program by partnering with producers of other Pennsylvania products.

Chambourcin Weekend - October 15 & 16
Discover the versatile Chambourcin wine grape and how it is crafted by our wineries into several styles of wine including Nouveau, Rosé, Semi- Sweet, Sweet, Dry Barrel Aged, Sparkling and Port.

Nouveau Weekend - November 19 & 20
The nine wineries will debut the first wines from the new vintage, as well as other new wine releases. They will also feature food and wine pairings for visitors to sample.

We hope to see you on the trail this fall!

Three Questions with...
Kari Skrip Gavenus of Clover Hill

This month we interviewed Kari Skrip Gavenus of Clover Hill Vineyards & Winery in Breinigsville.  We asked her about

1. Your parents Pat and John Jr. started the winery in the 1970s, and today you and your brother John III run the business with them. How did you and your brother decide to get involved in the family business as opposed to going into a different line of work like your sister did?

2. Your Flights with Bites events have become very popular as a good way to showcase food and wine pairings for customers. How did they get started, and who comes up with the menu?

3. You recently released six new wines. When developing a new wine, how do you decide what to create? Does it depend on what grapes you are growing that season, or do you take into consideration feedback from customers on what they like, or perhaps trends in the winemaking industry?

Winery of the month:
The Andreas, Pa. winery gets its name from owner Galen Troxell and the terrain, a glacially carved 'U' shaped glen.

The tasting room is located high on one hillside with vineyards, the cellars are tucked into the base of the glen and more vineyards are on the other hillside.

This cherry sapling image etched into the front walkway symbolizes their perseverance. Chopped down by Galen, their first vineyard was planted using it for row-to-row spacing, creating meandering grapevines.
