New Overtime Laws
How do they affect you?

O n May 18, 2016, the U.S. Department of Labor announced a major change to the law governing overtime pay. The new overtime pay law significantly increases the number of people who qualify for time-and-a-half pay for any hours they work beyond 40 in a week.

Under the new law, salaried employees making less than $47,476 a year must be paid overtime. This new protection applies to almost anyone making less than $47,476, including salaried managers or professionals. The new overtime pay law will go into effect on December 1, 2016.

Global Partnership for TeleHealth

Global Partnership for TeleHealth will host the Chamber's next Opportunity Tour on Wednesday, August 17 from 10-11:30 a.m. Pre-registration is required, and space is limited for these popular, behind-the-scene tours.

In order to gain first-hand knowledge of the types of careers and resources available in our community, we encourage all elected officials, business leaders, school personnel, and economic development professionals to attend. Participants will learn about future job trends in healthcare and witness simulations and real-time demonstrations.

Opportunity Tours give community leaders a chance to better represent and promote local business and industry partners. These in-depth tours provide participants the opportunity to learn more about the incredible products, services, and workforce development efforts available right in our own back yard.

Grow Your Business
Help from the SBDC

If a small business has a problem with growth, it's usually one of two issues: Either the business isn't growing fast enough, or the growth is uncontrolled. The Small Business Development Center has experienced consultants who can help small businesses create a strategy and action plan for growth that includes attention to each of the major areas of a small business: operations, finance, marketing, and human resources.

As part of the SBDC's assistance, consultants will help a small business owner and key team members assess the business's current situation and needs, create goals for the future direction of the business, and formulate plans for each area of the business to reach those goals.
