MESSAGE FROM PASTOR JON

Dear Friends and Members of Ark and Dove,

It is here! Ark and Dove Vacation Bible School 2016: Water All Around the World. Kim Champagne, Christina Nelson and many, many volunteer leaders have been working hard to put together a program that is faith-filled, mission-motivated, and a whole lot of fun. I am so thankful to be part of a community that cares so deeply about the faith formation of our children.

This year's theme is Living Waters for the World. Each day our children will learn about a different country that has safe water concerns. On the last day, we will be learning about our water worries here in Maryland. With each day, we hear Bible stories that encourage us to think about water and how precious a gift it is. I am so proud that we are focusing on this because it gets us thinking about the needs of our community and world. We are teaching our kids that what it means to be church is to be concerned about creation and respond with care. What a wonderful lesson!

While the children are learning a bit about what it means to be a church for the world, the adults are examining the role of the church following a series of short films featuring some of the most inspiring leaders in the church. Please join us for a great discussion on being a church in motion.

There is still time to REGISTER - and you can even register the night of, at church. We are a very accommodating crew, so don't hesitate to talk to Kim, Christina, or myself with any questions. We even hope that anyone who cannot make it the other nights can come on Thursday for a demonstration of how our rain garden works, water games, snacks, and more! Tomorrow (Saturday) at 10 am we will be putting up decorations all over the church. Please come join us. We need the help. Following worship on Sunday, we will also need help setting up the sanctuary.

I look forward to a great week!

Peace,
Jon

VERSES AND HOUSEHOLD PRAYERS

When the water in the skin was gone, [Hagar] cast the child under one of the bushes. Then she went and sat down opposite him a good way off, about the distance of a bowshot; for she said, "Do not let me look on the death of the child." And as she sat opposite him, she lifted up her voice and wept.  And God heard the voice of the boy; and the angel of God called to Hagar from heaven, and said to her, "What troubles you, Hagar? Do not be afraid; for God has heard the voice of the boy where he is. Come, lift up the boy and hold him fast with your hand, for I will make a great nation of him." Then God opened her eyes and she saw a well of water. She went, and filled the skin with water, and gave the boy a drink. --Genesis 21:15-19

Morning Prayer

God of creation: You fill the earth with water. You satisfy our thirst. Water is essential to life and so you provide for the life you love. And yet, in our world we have not taken of the gift of water. Even more, there are many on this globe who thirst in pain. We ask that you satisfy their thirst. We ask that you would open our eyes and hands to help those who thirst. And whenever we thirst for water, remind us of our thirst for the satisfaction found in you so that we might cry to you and be filled with the water of life and love. Amen.

And when Jesus had been baptized, just as he came up from the water, suddenly the heavens were opened to him and he saw the Spirit of God descending like a dove and alighting on him. And a voice from heaven said, "This is my Son, the Beloved, with whom I am well pleased."
--Matthew 3:16-17

Evening Prayer

God of love: In the waters of baptism, we find ourselves claimed as your beloved. You are pleased with what you have made in us. It is so easy to forget this. So on this day, may we remember our baptism. In remembering, send your Spirit upon us to remind us who we are in you. We need not fear, we need not fret. Let us not be worried. In every drop of water this day, remind us of your overflowing love for us. Amen.
