August 2016

It's summer time, when temperatures rise, for any reason, the sweat glands kick in to produce more sweat.  For some people, sweating can go into overdrive.  Excessive sweating, also called hyperhidrosis, means that you sweat far more than your body has to in order to regulate body temperature.

For example, if you sweat while sitting calmly at your desk, that is excessive sweating. In hyperhidrosis, the body's cooling mechanism is so overactive that it produces four or five times the amount of sweat that you need. About 3% of the population has excessive sweating.
The severity of the condition is based on the extent it interferes with your daily activities.
Did you know BOTOX®  can treat the symptoms of excessive sweating? .. . Read more below.

Sweating:  What's Normal, What's Not??
BOTOX for sweating
Do you sweat 'too much'?
Many people who have hyperhidrosis sweat from one or two areas of the body. Most often, they sweat from their palms, feet, underarms, or head. While the rest of the body remains dry, one or two areas may drip with sweat.
If you do any of the following to cope with sweating, talk to your dermatologist:
  • Is your excessive sweating interfering with your everyday activities?
  • Do your hands become so sweaty that it is difficult to turn a doorknob, use a computer or shake someone's hand?
  • Does sweat from your underarms often soak through your clothes, causing obvious sweat marks?
  • Do you change your clothes frequently; put absorbent materials under clothing; or avoid certain fabrics or clothing styles?
BOTOX® can help treat the symptoms of severe sweating when topical medicines/antiperspirants are not working.  More info on BOTOX and sweating
