     Kelly C. Morgan, Bailey & Wyant Partner and Kristen V. Hammond, Bailey & Wyant Associate obtained a favorable ruling on behalf of the West Virginia Department of Education before the West Virginia Supreme Court of Appeals in an employment discrimination and wrongful termination lawsuit filed in the Circuit Court of Kanawha County. Plaintiff alleged that he was offered and accepted a position with the West Virginia Department of Education; however, he was replaced by a younger candidate and wrongfully terminated as a result of whistleblower activity. As a result of obtaining Summary Judgment, each of the claims asserted against the West Virginia Department of Education were dismissed, with prejudice by the Circuit Court of Kanawha County.The West Virginia Supreme Court affirmed that decision.

Recently, Suleiman Oko-Oogua attended the Initiatives of Change's Peacebuilding for the 21st Century: From the Personal to the Global, at the Embassy of Switzerland, in Washington, DC. Initiatives of Change is a part of a diverse global network with an 80-year track record of peacebuilding, conflict resolution, international relations and forging partnerships across divides of race, class, religion and politics. A component of initiatives of change is the Caux Scholars Program which selects 20 applicants from around the world, through a competitive process to study various aspects of conflict resolution, applied international relations and peacebuilding. In 2001, Suleiman was among 20 students selected from around the world to participate in this program in Caux, Switzerland.

After an Elkview man was arrested for making threats against police via Facebook,   people in the community started questioning whether or not the arrest was against the man's first amendment rights. WOWK-TV reached out to Chuck Bailey, Co-Managing Member of Bailey & Wyant to see if the man's comments should be protected. Watch the video  here   to see why such comments  are not seen as free speech. 
Community Involvement

The Bailey & Wyant team (Jason Hammond, David Schumacher and Jim Marshall) competed in the Second Annual Apex Pipeline Charity Fundraiser at Berry Hills Country Club in Charleston this month. Bailey & Wyant was a Hole Sponsor and Prize Sponsor for the event. 

The Bailey & Wyant team had a fantastic time outside of the office in Cincinnati this month.The group got to tour around the city and attend a Cincinnati Reds baseball game.

     Paul Custer is a Member at Bailey & Wyant, PLLC 's Wheeling office, joining the firm in 2016.
