Flying Legends of Victory Tour 2016
August 1-7

The Arizona and Minnesota Chapters of the United States Commemorative Air Force will be visiting the Thunder Bay International Airport with a four engine restored B17 G Bomber known as the Flying Fortress and Sentimental Journey and the B25 Bomber 'Miss Mitchell'. 

They fly over the city at noon on Monday, August 1, 2016 and park on the Confederation College Aviation Centre for Excellence (ACE) apron for a week- long static show for the public. They will leave Monday, August 8. 

There will also be an opportunity to purchase flights. These flights will be restricted to certain days towards the end of the week. Imagine a flight in a restored WW11 bomber -a bucket list wish for many!

Thunder Bay plays host to dozens of fairs and festivals each year and Summer 2016 has been no exception. Here is the line up for August.

City Hall Sounds

Every Thursday, noon to 1 pm 


 
Back by popular demand, City Hall Sounds will run every Thursday in August at McGillivray Square, City Hall. Take time out of your busy day to relax and socialize with neighbours and coworkers, and take in the sounds of some excellent local musical talent. Local food trucks and arts activities will be on site as well as displays by community organizations. Don't miss this annual community event, sponsored by the Crime Prevention Council's Strong Neighbourhoods Working Group. See you there!

Rib Fest

August 26, 27, & 28, 2016

Like paradise for meat-eaters, once again the OLG parking lot will become the home of ribfest. Featuring entertainment, various vendors and food booths .  Ribfest orignated in 2012 with 4 Ribbers from Southern Ontario to compete for Best Ribs, bringing 20,000 people to the Downtown that weekend! Now in it's 5th Anniversary, Ribfest 2016 hopes to have 25,000 - 30,000 people to taste the ribs, have some fun and to enjoy the entertainment.

This year we have a Country 105 Children's area which is new and we also have Rock 94 night on Friday and Country 105 night on Saturday. Don't forget to bring your boots!

Marina Park

Live from the Waterfront - August 3, 10, 17, & 24
  
Since 1904, Live from the waterfront (Summer in the Parks) has been an important part of the City's heritage. With the incomparable Marina Park on Lake Superior as the setting, concerts showcase performers presenting a variety of musical styles. In addition to great music, Summer in the Parks evenings feature children's activities, free draws, a variety of on-site concessions and an artisans' market. The concerts are held on Wednesday nights throughout the summer from 6 to 9 pm. 

Movie Nights on the Waterfront - Friday August 19 & 26 

Movie Nights in the Park returns for the Fall session on Friday nights in Late August, and September. Bring warm clothes, a blanket and/or chair - food vendors will be on site. Movies start after dark (approx. 9pm)

Tuesday Night Jams  - August 3
Offering a wide range of music, all musicians & singers welcome! Bring your instruments! Seating is limited to 100 so please come early and bring a lawn chair. Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. From 7-10 pm every Tuesday Evening.

Sundays in the Park - August 7, 14, 21, & 28
All ages, family fun at the Chippewa Pavilion Sunday afternoons from 2-4 pm. Bring your lawn chair.
