Dog Days

According to Wikipedia "The Dog Days of Summer" is referred to as the 'sultry part of Summer, when Sirius, The Dog Star, rises at the same time as the sun.  It is a period marked by lethargy, inactivity or indolence.'   :)    I would have to agree! Sounds like a great time to take it easy, open a bottle of wine and cheer on our Canadian Olympic and Paralympic Teams in Rio!  Go Canada Go!  

The kids (or maybe the parents) are thinking about back to school! 
 A celebration of 50 years ago (8/17/66), when the Beatles played Maple Leaf Gardens, will take place this month, at the same venue.  Yikes~ 50 years! 
The CNE (Let's go to the EX)  opens with lots of delicious treats  like a Chicken Waffle on a stick! There's a wine for that! :)

Cauliflower is an excellent source of Vitamin C, K and B6, plus protein. Enjoy with a glass of Chardonnay!  

Recipe for August~ Cauliflower Casserole
- 1 small head cauliflower
-2 strips of bacon(browned & crisp~mmm bacon!)
-2 tsp olive oil
-1/2 onion sliced
-2 cloves garlic chopped
-1/2 cup greek plain yogurt
-1/2 cup sharp cheddar cheese, grated
-1/4 tsp paprika
-1 scallion chopped, salt & pepper to taste

1) Steam cauliflower for 20 minutes
2) Heat olive oil in pan, then saute onions,  adding the  garlic.
3) Place cauliflower & yogurt in a food processor until smooth.  Add salt & pepper
4) Place mixture into a casserole dish. Sprinkle with paprika and cheese
5) Broil in oven until browned on top.
6) Garnish on top with onions, bacon and chopped scallion.   Enjoy!
