NC Pre-K & Head Start Applications

We are still accepting applications for NC Pre-K and Head Start.

Families who are interested in applying for Head Start or preschool for 3 and 4 year olds must first go to the PORCh online screening portal to determine eligibility.

Infants, Toddlers, and Screen Media

In a technology-driven age, infants' and toddlers' exposure to "screen time" is a hot topic. Can too much screen media hinder a child's ability to learn later in life?

The effects of media on a child's learning and behavior are so profound that the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP) states that no child under the age of two should be exposed to screen media, and that screen time for children over two years should be limited to no more than two hours per day (AAPS 2010).

Program Spotlight: Building Healthy Lifestyles

Building Healthy Lifestyles in All Directions is a multi-facted approach to reduce childhood obesity in Cabarrus County. The program is a collaboration between UNC-Charlotte and Logan Community Day Care Center that implements Nutrition and Physical Acivity Self-Assessment for Child Care (NAP-SACC), Color Me Healthy, EatPlayGrow, and Healthy Futures in the Kitchen in child care centers.

Speakers include Dr. Maureen Conroy & Byron Garrett. Topics will include early intervention/inclusion, literacy, wellness, and much more!

Safe Kids Cabarrus and Concord Fire are pleased to present Safety Palooza 2016! This FREE event will be a day full of fun and learning, including activities like a Junior Firefighter Challenge, CPR training, and FREE food.
