Are you a caregiver to an elderly family member or friend?

Have breakfast on us and share the challenges and opportunities you face as a caregiver.

If you are a caregiver to an aging family member, you know the special rewards and the unique challenges that come with the job. Your responsibilities can be overwhelming and there never seems to be enough hours in the day.

You are not alone.Your service and care for your family is an important part of our community. That's why the Community Foundation of Western Nevada has created the Caregiver Support Initiative, to address the challenges facing family caregivers to senior citizens.  On Saturday, September 10, we invite you to attend a free community convening at the Washoe County Senior Services Center. There will be a mix of senior service providers, elected officials, and caregivers at each table along with a discussion facilitator.  Afterward, the entire room will summarize their table's conversation and talk about the most pressing issues.

Powerful things happen when people come together. You know what will be the most help to your family, and that's why they want to hear from you. This is your chance to share what is working for you and your loved one.  Learn from each other, and inform service providers, government representatives, on how they can support you in your caregiving. These conversations can inspire new ways we can work together to make your caregiver responsibilities more manageable and our community more supportive.

When we come together to listen to and learn from each other we have the power to impact both caregivers and our community. That is what the Caregiver Support Initiative is all about. If you are a caregiver, or know someone who is, please spread the word and consider attending this open forum.
