 HOLLYWOOD GLAMOUR AT PATRIOTS COLONY

We here at Patriots Colony may be far away from Hollywood with all its glamour, but we had a touch of that glamour right here at a fun dinner dance on May 18. The decorations were fabulous, and the music compelled attendees to get up and dance.

Here are Liz Shwiller and Harvey Burden dancing to the toe-tapping music provided by The Top Hats with our own Lew Mabie playing the sax.

COURTYARD SIX POT LUCK

Courtyard six had a great pot luck gathering to welcome the arrival of spring. As
you can tell from the pictures, courtyard six is not entirely a tame group.
Lots of fun and good food was enjoyed by all. Our host (Craig Hagan) greeted the
gathered neighborhood with "Chieu Hoi"(I surrender). And now they claim that it
was a "hot tub party" rather than a pot luck.  What a fun way to welcome spring and summer!

 COLONIAL WILLIAMSBURG
"LIBERTY LOUNGE"

On May 26, Colonial Williamsburg officially opened their new "Liberty Lounge" located in the heart of the Foundation's Historic Area. The purpose of this new facility is to further honor the nation's brave service men and women, who uphold the ideals and values that originally were set forth in this very special place during the 18th century.  KEEP READING...

NEW PATRIOTS COLONY GARDENS

After much anticipation, the expansion project for Patriots Colony has finally
begun. This work will proceed in a series of steps. The first building to be built will
be a new maintenance facility so that the PCAW maintenance crew will have a
consolidated location for their tools and equipment, and storage for bulk
materials.

But, in order for the maintenance building to be constructed, the residents' garden will be impacted. Therefore, the garden will need to be moved. A new site
has been found, beside Villa Court 4, and across the street from Villa Court 2. The
work to clear this lot began on April 4th. By the 8th, all standing trees had been
downed, and most of the debris had been hauled away.  KEEP READING...
THE KENTUCKY CLUB

The Kentucky Club (pictured here) enjoyed a pre-Derby lunch, including mint
juleps and a wonderful clarinet version of "My Old Kentucky Home," performed
by Lew Mabie. A good time was had by all.

THE KOREAN WAR... FORGOTTEN OR IGNORED?
Major George Loving, 1951

When referring to the Korean War, the media invariably speak of "The Forgotten War." It would be more accurate to refer to it as "The Ignored War." During World War II, when I returned home after a year of aerial combat in Europe, all of my friends were still deployed at places around the world. I was greeted, congratulated and questioned by many persons, some of whom I didn't know.  KEEP READING...

HISTORY AROUND THE CORNER

The first permanent settlement of our nation lies just 10 minutes away from
Patriots Colony. Two fine museums await for all to join in learning the story of
Jamestown as new information is revealed daily.

Residents may take a short drive to the south on Greensprings Plantation Drive to
begin the story at the JAMESTOWN SETTLEMENT, a living history museum. Its
location is just across Jamestown Road (Rt. 31, the Ferry Road) from the end of
Greensprings Drive. Cross Rt. 31 and drive a mile farther. At the end of the
Colonial Parkway is HISTORIC JAMESTOWNE on Jamestown Island where early
English settlers established the colony.  KEEP READING...
