Polynesian Dance and Culture Lecture
|
Join us for a lecture on Polynesian dance and culture on Saturday,
August 13, from 2 to 3 p.m. in the community room. Presenter Kumu Kalena, who is a Polynesian dance instructor, will talk about the Polynesian Triangle and its peoples, as well as Hawaiian dance and chanting.

New IT Administrator Joins Staff
|
Greetings! My name is Zach Runyon and I am the new IT Administrator for Sedona Public Library. I have a degree in information technology, with a concentration in network administration.
 I was born and raised in Jerome, Arizona, and just recently moved back to the area. For the last several years, I worked as the Systems Administrator for a school district on the outskirts of Indianapolis. During my tenure with the school district, I collaborated with teachers and staff to develop innovative ways of utilizing technology in the classroom. My experience working with educators and students afforded me the opportunity to gain insight into the multitude of ways that technology can be utilized to make learning fun and engaging. I hope to apply this experience in developing innovative solutions to meet our community's needs.

Story Time at the Library
|
School is back in session this month, and regular story time classes for infants through preschoolers have resumed at the Library. The half-hour drop-in classes happen three times a week and may include a combination of stories, a craft activity, singing, dancing, and a little bit of American Sign Language.
- Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.: Library Lions, best for ages 3 and up
- Thursday at 10:30 a.m.: Mellow Monkeys, best for infants and toddlers
- Saturday at 11:00 a.m.: Story Time and Craft, best for ages 3 and up

Movies in August
|
There's a free movie showing every Monday night in August, starting at 6 p.m. in the community room.
- August 1: Ushpizin, an Israeli film about a poor Orthodox Jewish couple who must host unannounced visitors during the holiday of Sukkot.

 August 8: Race, based on the true story of Jesse Owens, whose quest to become the greatest track and field athlete in history thrust him onto the world stage of the 1936 Berlin Olympics.
- August 15: Star Wars: The Force Awakens, the action-packed latest installment in the popular saga.
- August 22: Calvary, about an Irish priest who faces troubling circumstances brought about by a mysterious member of his parish.
- August 29: Truth, a dramatic re-creation of Dan Rather's fall from grace after an erroneous news report.

Secrets of the Pyramid of Djoser will be shown on Friday,
August 5, and
Stone Age Masters: The Magdalenian Masters is the selection for Friday,

Donor Spotlight

 89Agave, a new restaurant in uptown Sedona, has come on board as a supporter of the youth services department at Sedona Public Library. Serving authentic Sonoran-style Mexican food and specialty tequilas, 89Agave is also dedicated to local philanthropy that supports children.
 General Manager Jordan Rogers says, "Children are, ultimately, our greatest asset." That's why 89Agave is making sure all Sedona youth have access to current and important educational resources at our community library. With a percentage of proceeds from the rosemary-infused "Sedona Margarita," 89Agave will fund a new SPL initiative, "Keeping Kids Connected," supporting technology, collections, and equipment in our innovative children's area. News from the Village
|
The Village library now offers mobile printing. With our new mobile printing service, you can use your personal computer or mobile device from anywhere to print to the printer at the Village library. Simply submit a document for printing and come to the library within two hours to pick up your document. You will need your library card or your email address to release your print job. You can access the link to mobile printing on the
SPL-V web page.
Our mobile printing service is made possible by funding from an LSTA grant supported by the Arizona State Library, Archives and Public Records, a division of the Secretary of State, with federal funds from the Institute of Museum and Library Services.
