IDF Widows and Orphans Bnei Mitzvah Celebration July 29-30: Hosts Needed
Dear Friends,

We are happy to be hosting children from the IDF Widows and Orphans Organization next Shabbat, July 29-30, in our community.  The children are currently on their Bnei Mitzvah trip in the US and have accepted our offer of hospitality for the weekend.  On Shabbat morning we will have a special Bar/Bat Mitzvah celebration for the children, who lost parents while serving the State of Israel.

Following the Bnei Mitzvah celebration, which will feature a gift for each of the children and a bracha from the Rabbi, we will have a kiddush in their honor.  If you would like to take part in this kiddush sponsorship opportunity please click here. (Choose Congregational Kiddush- IDF Widows and Orphans)  Sponsorship is $36 per family.

Thank you all very much for helping make this possible and for helping us bring joy to these children of heroes.

IDF Widows and Orphans (IDFWO) is a non-profit organization that was established in 1991 as the sole organization recognized by the State of Israel to represent the widows and orphans of Israel's fallen soldiers.  Today they work with over 8,000 women and children who lost their loved one in the Israeli security forces and work tirelessly to bring warmth and love to these families.   http://www.idfwo.org

Israel Action - Rabbi Micki Mark ZT"L Family Fundraising Campaign
WE ARE MORE THAN HALF WAY TO OUR $5,000 GOAL!  Kol Hakavod to all who have contributed to this worthwhile fundraiser.  If you haven't yet donated, please click here

Dear Friends,
As many of you know, several weeks ago Rabbi Micki Mark ZT"L, was murdered by Palestinian terrorists in a drive-by shooting on the way to his home to Otniel on erev Shabbat with his wife and two children in the car.  The attack occurred the day after the horrific murder of 13 year-old, Hallel Ariel by a terrorist while sleeping in her bedroom.

Rabbi Mark served for many years as Executive Director of Torat Shraga, a post-high school yeshiva in Bayit Vegan, Jerusalem, where many boys from our community have attended in past years. He had a profound impact on the lives of many young students over the years. He was also an individual who was a pillar of chesed in Otniel and especially was a source of both financial and emotional support to families in Otniel, a community that has suffered numerous terror attacks in recent years.  He leaves behind his wife, Chavi, who is recovering from injuries she sustained in the terrorist attack, as well as ten children and four grandchildren.

The latest shooting attack has left many in the community, including young children, fearful to travel. A campaign has been started by Torat Shraga and the greater Jewish Community to raise funds to purchase a bulletproof vehicle for the Otniel community to drive in and out of town safely. The campaign is aiming to raise $200,000 in total.

With the month of Tammuz now upon us and as we shortly enter the period of the "3 weeks" and "9 Days" - where our hearts and minds should be focused on Israel and our collective responsibility for the Jewish People - it is fitting that we do something in support of Acheinu Bnai Yisrael, our brothers and sisters in Israel.  In this spirit, we would like to aim to raise a minimum of $5,000 from our Shul in support of this important cause so that, in some small way, we can do our part to show that terror will not succeed.

We welcome everyone's participation at any level; checks can be sent to YIS earmarked for the "Micki Mark z"l Campaign" or Click here and use the pull down window on the shul website for Israel Fund -"Micki Mark z"l Campaign" to contribute online.

May we soon see Shalom Al Yisrael.
