PHILADELPHIA - Democrats for Life of America will honor Louisiana Gov. John Bel Edwards at a special reception Wednesday at the Democratic National Convention.
Gov. Edwards will receive the group's Governor Casey Whole Life Leadership Award, named after the late Gov. Robert Casey of Pennsylvania. Casey was a staunch pro-life leader who wasn't afraid to buck his party in order to stand for his principles.
The reception begins at 11 a.m. in the Symphony Ballroom at the Double Tree by Hilton at the Philadelphia Center City.
Louisiana Right to Life Executive Director Benjamin Clapper said: "We congratulate Gov. Edwards on receiving the Gov. Casey Whole Life Leadership Award from Democrats for Life of America. Gov. Edwards is a model Democratic leader embracing the pro-life cause in America. We are proud he is representing pro-life Louisiana values, both in his personal beliefs and his public actions. It is a testament to his courage and integrity that he would not shy away from being a pro-life Democrat. Together with Democrats for Life of America, we hope for a day when both political parties would be committed to protecting human rights for all, born and unborn."
