Summer Successes

School may not be in session, but VCS students and staff have still been working hard! Read on to see what we have accomplished this summer and what's in store for the upcoming school year.
A Message from the Superintendent: Jeff Nelson
Greetings!
I hope you are having a fantastic Summer! I know our teachers are (they love summer just as much as the kids). We are enjoying the Summer here at VCS Ohio, but we've been plenty busy preparing for the upcoming school year.
The 2016-17 school year at VCS Ohio is going to be our best ever! We are going to present our students with more engaging curriculum options this year, more social opportunities, and of course, our amazing teaching staff.
Also, for the first time, we are having Pack To School events around the state. You will be able to learn all about VCS Ohio at these events and get some great prizes. We are really excited to travel the state to meet our students, so as you enjoy the final days of your summer vacation, don't forget to check the calendar so you can attend the event when it is close to your hometown.
Stay safe and we will see you back to school on August 17.

Summer Reading Challenge
Our Summer Reading Challenge has gone above and beyond what we expected! Our original goal of 1,500 pages was surpassed within one week and our subsequent goal of 10,000 pages was reached after just 4 weeks! Since our students kept surprising us, we decided to let them set their own personal reading goals to finish the challenge. This left us with a new combined goal of 2 5,000 pages to read by Friday, July 29th. At our last tally, we were at a total of 20,825 pages read. Keep Reading!

Along with the page total goals,
we have also had mini-challenges!

Students were encouraged to send in pictures for Get Caught Reading. Pictures were judged based on quality and creativity. Isabella Smith and her little brother Lucas were our winners for this contest! They were caught reading while having a unicorns and royalty story time. These pictures show just how much fun reading can be.

Our coloring mini-challenge encouraged students to color a pre-selected picture or pick their own picture to color or draw free-hand that relates to one of the books they read this summer.

Our winner for this challenge was Hallie Witte - an upcoming 3rd grader at VCS. Congratulations, Hallie!

Grand Prize winners will be announced on Monday! Be sure to follow us on social media to see the final results of the challenge.

Lupa & Miah

Lupa and Miah enjoyed playing in the sprinkler with the other wolves at
Southern Ohio Wolf Sanctuary, Inc. VCS adopted these wolf pups (the two youngest wolves in the video) at the end of last school year. The wolf is VCS Ohio's mascot.
