Hot Summer Nights!
Marcia Jordan Owner, Publisher
We had suc h a great response to last month's newsletter and   the   tips and tricks we shared on how to keep cool at your June wedding!  We thought an encore was due as the heat continues to swallow us in its humidity throughout July and August here in Hampton Roads!
We released our latest issue at the beginning of this month and that too has been received with rave reviews.  Be sure to get your copy! Pages full of real weddings, inspiration, local vendors, and more, all at your finger tips to guide you in creating the perfect wedding day.
I have heard many refer to the Hampton Roads Wedding Guide as the "cutest little planning guide" and that always brings on a smile for me.   Each issue I publish has a piece of my heart and this issue is no different. We had a great time laying this issue out.  Enjoy the beauty!
Cheers & Happy Planning (and reading!)
Fondly,
Marcia

For the Men!

Consider light colors and materials when dressing your men for outdoor events.
We would be amiss to not include some suggestions for the men as well!  An outdoor affair, in particular on the beach in July and August can be HOT!

Consider a light gray or a more casual look overall.
Summer weddings can be sweltering in Hampton Roads.  The humidity alone can be pressing; but add the hot sun and your wedding party can become quite uncomfortable.  Avoid dressing in the traditional black tux. Consider a lighter color such as sand or a light gray or a more casual look overall.  Lastly Gents, you may want to consider purchasing or renting an extra dress shirt to change into should you feel the need to freshen up and keep comfy!
Choose Hardy Flowers
Flowers that are summer seasonal do not always equate to flowers that stand up well in the heat.  A perfect example of this is hydrangea.  Before cut from the bush, hydrangea is a hardy flower that blooms beautifully in the summer months.  Once cut however, they are extremely sensitive to heat and direct sunlight, wilting very quickly when used in bouquets and arrangements at outdoor events.

Roses on the other hand area a very hardy flower and stand up well to the elements.  Discuss your options thoroughly when meeting with your floral designer! Looking for more details and inspiration for your wedding flowers?  Visit our latest issue at page 142!
Emergency Kit for
 Beating the Heat!
Your bridal emergency kits should have everything you need to beat the heat, including wipes, deodorant, water, bobby pins, and hairspray.  you may even wish to include a hand held battery powered fan to keep your makeup in place and fresh through out your pictures.

Looking for Upcoming Area Bridal Shows?

Keep it Light,
Consider Short
Short and Elegant Design by Justin Alexander
Gone now is the idea that a wedding gown has to be a full length ball gown  with lon g train following behind the bride.  Today, the gown expresses the individuality and style of the  bride,  should  be appropriate for the event, and ultimately be the focal point and express the look and feel  of the  overall event.
Light and Flowy by Designer
Stella York.
Is your wedding ceremony and/or reception outside or on the beach? Be sure to consider the heat and humidity when choosing your gown. Long trains and full skirts of netting are not the best choices for outdoor and beach affairs.  Consider something light and flowing  that will keep you cool and allow some air to flow underneath your gown.  Being comfortable is one of the most important things in enjoying your big day!
A tip from Jennifer:
Planning Tools Galore!
The new issues of  the  Hampton Roads Wedding Guide  is out and absolutely stunning!  If you haven't grabbed your copy yet, be sure

Jennifer La Londe,
Director of Creative Content
to do so!  As a former full service event planner and designer, I adore the fact that each issue of the HRWG contains planning tools galore!  Inside you will find the craftiest of planning checklists, budget trackers , planning timelines, and registry lists just waiting for the engaged couple to utilize as they plan their wedding affair to remember.

We hope you enjoy the new issue, filled with  inspiration, local weddings, local designers work, area vendors, and all that is the heart of why couples choose to marry in Hampton Roads!
Stay Hydrated!

It is just as important to drink as it is to eat on your wedding day! Make sure not only you but your entire wedding party stays hydrated.  In particular if your event will be outdoors.  And of course, make it a fun and part of your wedding decor scheme!

Wedding Day Hair & Makeup That Will Last!
When considering the type of hair style and makeup you will wear on your wedding day, be sure to consult with a professional regarding the time of day you will marry as well as whether or not your ceremony and reception will be outdoors.  For example, hair that is curled and left down on a hot and humid day is not likely to keep its shape as well as hair that is pinned up.  Your wedding professional will have the perfect solution to keep you looking picture perfect all day!
