Just like all the rest of us, our strawberries are tired of cold air and gray skies, so when the sun came out this morning, they started ripening so fast that pickers could hardly keep up with them.
You-pick bonus for members this week is Two Quarts of Strawberries!
We hope to have a big crowd for our Strawberry Festival Weekends, so come during the week for your bonus if you can. We also have a lot of fresh asparagus for sale in the market, so take some of that home and try one of Marla's asparagus recipes.
CSA members: delivery schedules will be published in this space next week. Be sure to check for your zip code's delivery day -- it may not be the same as it was last year.

New “FarmHer” TV Show Features the Rock-Star Women of Agriculture
By Andrew Amelinckx on May 17, 2016
It was a television commercial—the Dodge truck ad “God Made a Farmer,” featuring images of mostly male farmers and ranchers that aired during the Super Bowl in 2013—that led Marjorie Guyler-Alaniz to begin photographing women involved in agriculture and posting the images on her FarmHer website. Now it's her turn to be on the small screen....
“Women weren’t pictured anywhere in agriculture even though we know they are there. I had just spent a whole career working in agriculture, my grandparents were farmers, and I grew up in the country, so I knew women were a big part of agriculture,” Guyler-Alaniz tells Modern Farmer in a phone interview. “Rather than be frustrated about it I decided I would do something, so I started FarmHer.”

Picture Farmer Films has organized an unusual multi-stage fund-raising event to help defray the costs of the documentary they're making about Holy Cross Abbey.
"On June 4 and 5, eminent regional artists will gather at the Holy Cross Abbey and paint outdoors from various vantage points on the property," their website explains. "Two weeks later an exhibit of works created during the outdoor painting weekend will take place, beginning with an opening reception at the Barns of Rose Hill on Saturday, June 18 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm. All are invited to view the exhibit, meet artists, purchase paintings, and talk with the film producers."
Great chance to support local painters, local monks, and local farmers. Learn more here.
