A Message from the Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

As we find ourselves a month away from welcoming our students to the 2016-2017 school year, we also find ourselves just a few days away from welcoming our teaching staff to our two week professional development experience, Learning @ Lovejoy. Beginning on Tuesday, July 26 through Friday, August 5, you will find the Lovejoy High School parking lot to be full. Our educators will begin their two weeks of learning with New York Times bestselling author, Dan Heath. Dan, a Senior Fellow at Duke University's CASE Center, will be presenting from his book (co-authored by his brother, Chip) Made To Stick. During the two weeks, Lovejoy staff members will have numerous opportunities to learn from nationally recognized leaders in a wide variety of fields. There is truly something for everyone.

Learning @ Lovejoy is open to both private and public schools throughout Texas and beyond. The registration cost, paid by these participants, helps fund the cost of the conference, along with generous donations from several sponsors like the Foundation for Lovejoy Schools. For the second year, Office Depot is sponsoring Learning @ Lovejoy and has also made a donation toward the furniture in the incubator space at Lovejoy High School's new STEM wing. The following photos are a "sneak peek" of this new space which will open in August of this year. We are looking forward to the learning which will take place in the STEM wing, and the resulting creativity and innovation from our students.

The Texas Girls Coaches Association All Star Softball game was held  las t week with the Red team winning the 5A/6A game. Emily Weichel and Kylee Ramos reinforced why they were Texas Girls Coaches Association All Stars, as both girls received v otes for MVP of the game. They led their Red Team to a 6-4 victory, and scored 3 of the 6 runs, including the game winner. Emily went 2 for 3, 2 runs, 1 HBP (The Human Target), 1 RBI, 1 SB, 3 assists, 1 PO (Starter at SS, 3 Hole). Kylee went 2 for 3, 1 run, 1 RBI, 1 PO (Starter in LF, 6 Hole).

These young ladies made a great impression on the coaches in attendance, and the All Star coaches whom they played for.

In other softball news, Senior center fielder, JoJo McRae earned USA TODAY / NFCA 2nd Team All-America honors. This is the highest group of awards that a high school softball player can receive. Congratulations to JoJo.

Learning @ Lovejoy - Parent Opportunity

With access and exposure comes a great responsibility, of which people of all ages are lacking a true understanding - namely, the lasting digital footprint we create every day. Our young people have technology in their hands and access to an ever-growing and changing collection of digital content. They will always have technology and digital access, so why not explain their rights and responsibilities?
