My Grandmother use to say Summer was half over at the fourth of July, for me, Summer is half over when we finish our week at Camp Havvago. We had a fantastic week with so much growth for the kids and we had a lot of NEW kids attend this year. 99.99% of the kids had no problems and what problems we did have were manageable and somewhat in keeping with what camps for neurotypical kids encounter. All in all I say the week was a huge success ! It was great fun the next day at Breezy Picnic grounds to see kids who'd been at camp together reconnect with glee and spend the day playing together. This is the most beneficial part of the experience. The kids find others like themselves and they click. Watching kids who usually struggle with friendship connect and play together is phenomenal and so I send a huge thanks to Emily and her staff at Camp Starfish for working with us to make this possible. We've plans to keep the kids connected over the school year with Game evenings and Just for Girls evenings.
Our attention is now turning to GOLF with our annual Tee Up for Autism Tournament just a little over a month away. Sponsors are lining up and the committee has been hard at work securing some awesome raffle prizes. If you are a golfer think about joining us on August 26th, if you're not a golfer but have friends or relatives that are, please share the event with them. My Brother in law and nephews were the 1st to sign up as a team, as they do every year . It's a great day for a great cause - Your kids!
Coming up this week on Friday is an ice cream social and next week we'll be at Cinema World in Fitchburg for a Friends and Family Movie The Secret Life of Pets . Summer may be half over but there is still lots of fun we can have, if you haven't signed up for Family Fun Days at Camp you'll want to register soon. This year we start on a Sunday so even working families and those whose kids are involved with therapeutic programs can enjoy a day. If your child on the spectrum has a full schedule with an ABA provider remember that you and their siblings are still able to come and enjoy time at camp. We can include 1:1's on a case by case basis so give us a call ! It's a great judgement free zone to learn skills !
