FFEU acknowledged for its leadership


 
New York City Council's Eid Ul-Fitr 2016 Celebration


FFEU's President  Rabbi Marc Schneier and Chairman  Russell Simmons , were honored by the New York City Council  during its EID UL-FITR 2016 Celebration on July 21st held at City Hall. Rabbi Schneier received the Proclamation from Council Member I. Daneek Miller and New York City Council Speaker Melissa Mark-Viverito, f or the Foundation's groundbreaking work in Muslim-Jewish relations. FFEU partner Nusantara Foundation President  Imam Shamsi Ali was also honored at the prestigious gathering.

2016 Democratic Vice Presidential Candidate,United States  Senator Tim Kaine applauded the mission of the Foundation for Ethnic Understanding while presenting the award  to FFEU President Rabbi Marc Schneier at the Jewish Heritage Month Celebration  on May 25th at the U.S. Congress in Washington, DC.

March for America: 
Americans Against Terrorism, Hate and Violence
FFEU Muslim-Jewish program Director  Walter Ruby was among the featured speakers at the March for America: Americans Against Terrorism, Hate and Violence held on July 23rd, on the National Mall in Washington, DC. The March for America was convened by American-Islam, an Orlando, Florida-based organization headed by Imam Muhammad Musri, together with support of the Islamic Society of North America and All-Dulles Area Muslim Society (ADAMS Center). 

Among the other speakers were Rabbi Steven Engel, Rev. Bryan Fulwider, ISNA National Director Dr. Sayyid Syeed, Imam Mohamed Magid of ADAMS Center, Pastor Joian Bell Haynes, Luby Ismail, Imam Talib Shareef, Andrea Barron of Washington Area Jews for Jewish-Muslim Understanding and Comedian Preacher Moss.

"Challenging Religious Extremism in a Globalized World"
FFEU President  Rabbi Marc Schneier offered the opening remarks and shared the "Muslims Are Speaking Out - #MASO" national campaign at the international panel discussion, "Challenging Religious Extremism in a Globalized World," organized by the Nusantara Foundation and its President  Imam Shamsi Ali on July 22nd.
Europe

FFEU European Director Samia Hathroubi was interviewed by international news outlets regarding the attack on Bastille Day in Nice, on July 14th to share her expertise and experiences working with French Muslim communities.

She is also one of the signatories among  French Muslims, Jewish and Christian religious leaders and activists who signed a call p ublished by French newspaper, La Croix, to foster a spirit of resistance to terrorism and to keep on building bridges among ethnic communities. FFEU European Director  Samia Hathroubi  is pioneering a Leadership and Mentoring Program for young Muslim women from disadvantaged areas. One of the programs was a trip to the  National French Parliament on July 19th. 



 


FFEU European Director  Samia Hathroubi  participated on July 6th in the Council of Europe's 3rd Annual "State of Democracy, Human Rights and the Rule of Law: A Security Imperative for Europe",  as an expert on education and issues related to Middle East conflicts. The gathering of experts aspired to  design and implement a new politic that will deal with racism and radicalization in European schools.
