Cornell-Murray property possible site for affordable housing
A preliminary agreement with a developer for possible construction of a 48-unit affordable housing complex was authorized by the Board of Commissioners during its Tuesday (July 19) meeting.
Community Partners for Affordable Housing (CPAH) submitted a proposal last fall in response to the County's "Request for Expressions of Interest" (RFEI )for redevelopment of the 0.76-acre site on the southeast corner of Cornell Road and Murray Boulevard. The County was seeking creative, innovative and feasible proposals for the site, which was acquired as part of the widening of the Cornell-Murray intersection. In addition to the housing units, CPAH's proposal calls for retail, possibly microrestaurants, and an outdoor plaza on the site.
CPAH has developed affordable housing projects in other communities:
The Barcelona in Beaverton, The Knoll in Tigard and
The Watershed in Hillsdale.
Washington County has been invited to submit an application for a $100,000
Metro Equitable Housing Grant to assist with this and other potential affordable housing projects. Construction on the Cornell-Murray site is expected to begin in 2017, if negotiations proceed as anticipated.

Public comment sought on the Transportation Safety Action Plan An open house for the Washington County draft Transportation Safety Action Plan (TSAP) is providing an opportunity for public comment through Aug. 20. The TSAP, funded by a grant from the Oregon Department of Transportation (ODOT), is a collaboration among multiple agencies including law enforcement and emergency responders. The online open house, at www.washcotsap.com, provides an opportunity for the community to learn about the TSAP and to submit comments. The plan outlines actions to improve transportation safety and end traffic-related injuries and deaths. It reviews transportation-related serious injury and fatality crash data on County roads to determine crash trends (types of crashes, functional road class, road-user type, etc.) After analyzing this data, action items are developed in order to reduce these types of crashes on County roads.
