NEW ALBERTA SENIORS ADVOCATE

Sheree Kwong See has been appointed Alberta's new Seniors Advocate and will begin her term September 1, 2016.

The Seniors Advocate assists in dealing with concerns about government programs and services including housing, income and health benefit support programs, health and home care services and continuing care. The advocate also advises government on trends and systemic issues that concern seniors and their families. Learn more about how the Seniors Advocate supports seniors and their families.

COMMUNITY INNOVATION GRANT FOR PEOPLE AFFECTED BY DEMENTIA: A PERSON-CENTRED APPROACH

This grant, funded by Alberta Health, provides one-time funding to support community and health service providers to develop and implement innovative projects and/or introduce or build on new and creative approaches to person-centred dementia services in Alberta.

This opportunity is open to interested and eligible community based organizations, recreation or arts and cultural organizations, Continuing Care service providers, public, not for profit and for profit organizations and residential care providers. This will include community groups, non-governmental and governmental organizations in urban and rural communities, including native band lands.

Service Alberta's Consumer Awareness Research and Education Unit

The Consumer Awareness Research and Education (CARE) Unit develops and maintains educational material and delivers presentations to seniors community groups on consumer protection topics including landlord and tenant issues, consumer tips, identity theft, charities and fair trading (direct sales, prepaid contracting, collections and payday lending).

RFP: IMPLEMENTATION AND ASSESSMENT OF RIDE-SCHEDULING SOFTWARE FOR ALTERNATE TRANSPORTATION FOR SENIORS (ATS) SERVICES - ALBERTA PILOT PROJECT

The Medically At-Risk Driver (MARD) Centre at the University of Alberta invites applications from not-for-profit organizations (e.g., senior's centres, handivan societies, municipalities, etc.) in Alberta that are currently delivering alternate transportation to seniors (ATS) services. 

The goal of this pilot project is to determine if the use of ride-scheduling software increases efficiency in service delivery and decreases the cost of ATS service provision. The successful Alberta applicant will work with MARD to establish and support the implementation of ride-scheduling software within its ATS service/ organization and facilitate evaluation of the software during this pilot project.

RFP guidelines, proposal template, eligibility criteria and application instructions are available at www.mard.ualberta.ca. Applications must be received on or before 3:30 p.m. on September 8.
