CALLED TO GLORY
Former LCMS, seminary President Ralph Bohlmann dies
The Rev. Dr. Ralph Bohlmann, who served four terms (1981-92) as president of The Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod and was named as the church body's first president emeritus, died July 24, 2016 in St. Louis, MO. He was 84.

Bohlmann was president of Concordia Seminary from 1975 to 1981. He joined the seminary faculty as a professor of systematic theology in 1960, and continued to teach there until his election as LCMS president.

A memorial service was held on Wednesday, July 27, 2016 in The Chapel of St. Timothy and St. Titus on the campus of Concordia Seminary, St. Louis, MO.

Survivors include two children: Paul of New York City and Lynn of Jacksonville, IL, and two grandchildren. Bohlmann's wife, Pat, died of cancer in 2012, after 53 years of marriage.

PRAYER REQUEST
Harper with her brother and sister
Korey and Tiffany Danley, of Beautiful Savior Lutheran Church and Preschool, Lee's Summit, MO, has requested prayer for Tiffany's brother and his family. The Rodden family said goodbye to their little 14 month old, Harper, on the afternoon of July 27, 2016, the result of a tragic car accident. Please keep Geoffrey (dad), Whitney (mom), Cole (brother) and Kinsley (sister) in your prayers. As you can imagine there is deep grief and an empty space in their hearts at this unexpected loss. Our prayers and petitions for this family will be felt in the next hours, days, and weeks to come. May the Lord grant His peace to their restlessness.

We rejoice that the Rodden family can cling to the Lord's baptismal promise to Harper, and know that she is in His loving arms.

There is a GoFundMe account set up for the family.

Love Your Neighbor

Giving to a food pantry
Every week, the kids at Hope, Hastings, MN, bring their offerings forward. But what does it go toward? This year they identified Hastings Family Service as one of the recipients. Last week, some of the kids had a chance to go shopping for items to donate to the food shelf. They were also able to present a check for $218.00 (which will be matched). Awesome job kids! Your generosity throughout the year is a blessing to many in the community.
Helping to place children with families
Joshua Kaufmann, member at Risen Christ Lutheran Church, Plymouth, MI, is serving in China at an orphanage for disabled children. He has created a video to help a precious older orphan be adopted. Please watch the video and feel free to share it on your social media networks or email to family and friends. This young girl named Amanda is dreaming of a forever family and you could help make her dream come true!

Also, another older orphan is being adopted this week and Joshua's past video was a major part of that family's decision to adopt him. Keep up your service, Joshua, to these beautiful children.

DOLLARS & SENSE CHURCH REVIEW
Congregations both large and small face the serious task of managing their funds. The members work unselfishly to share His Word in the local community. In order to do this most effectively, each church must make daily decisions as to how to best manage its finances. Many congregations have in their constitution the requirement of an "audit" of their financial records on a periodic basis. Often times, this can be difficult to accomplish due to a lack of availability of the proper level of expertise.

Bishop Jamison J. Hardy has been contacted by many congregations and, thus, the English District would like to offer an objective and confidential solution.

Paul J. Stanis is a baptized child of God. What he has been doing to support his family since 1976 is to work as a CPA (currently on inactive status). He is experienced in accounting, tax and finance in a wide range of industries. More specifically, he worked as the Treasurer of Peace Lutheran Church in McMurray, PA for three years and had previously held the positions of Provisional Council President, Head Elder, Deacon and Stewardship Chairman.

The English District would like you to consider using Paul to meet your need for this financial review. The only monetary responsibility to the congregation would be for his travel expenses (transportation, lodging and food). This will not require an extended amount of time on site and he would be willing to help defray the cost by staying at a member's home and enjoying Lutheran potluck meals.

The long range goal would be for you to engage Paul every few years, per your constitution.

If you would be interested in exploring this opportunity to strengthen your congregation's foundation, please feel free to contact Bishop Hardy for a personal reference. Since this is currently in the developmental stage, please sign up through the District President's office 248-476-0039 or [email protected] by November 30, 2016. This will give the District Board of Directors an idea of whether to make this a regular tool for your use .
