This year, recipients of the Outstanding Unit Leader award will be presented their award at a meaningful gathering of your Scout unit by a member of the district's Commissioner Staff.  The District Award of Merit recipients will be presented with their awards at the annual District Picnic in June and recognized again at the Council Annual Dinner.
A short description of each award is printed below:
District Award of Merit  is the highest award that the District can give to a Scouter. Its purpose is to recognize Scouters that render service of an outstanding nature at the District level. A selection committee of past recipients is appointed each year to review nominations. A plaque and uniform knot is presented at an appropriate District event.  Please note, that previous recipients will not be considered by the selection committee.  The nomination form used is the BSA official form.
Outstanding Unit Leader Award  is available for adult volunteers serving units in the Huron Trails District; it is not a nationally recognized or regulated award.  Outstanding Unit Leaders are nominated by their own units and each unit (Pack, Troop, Team, Crew) is eligible to identify 1 leader for every 25 registered youth (or portion thereof). This distinction is usually proffered on leaders for longtime service or service above and beyond the call of their registered leadership position. This award can be bestowed more than once to an individual, but due to the quota allotted; units are encouraged to recognize different individuals over time.  Nominations are due by Monday May 23rd, 2016 and can be returned to the Council Service Center, 3914 Bestech Drive, Ypsilanti, MI 48197.  Please mark them to the attention of the Huron Trails District.  You may also scan and email to either Tiffany or Rachal.

Camping:   Tim Mummaw is our Huron Trails District Camping Promotion and he has developed a Campsite Recommendation Survey. His goal is to put together a database of camping locations for all of our units, packs, troops and crews. We need your input! Troop 1948: The Second Oldest Service Troop in Michigan
FREE Camping and Service Event
The Monroe County Fair has a long history and association with the Boy Scouts of America. Each year since its inception in 1948, the Monroe County Fair Service Troop has served the Fair Board and the local community alike through its dedication to keeping the grounds clean and enjoyable for fairgoers. The Troop accomplishes this by performing duties and tasks that assist the Fair Board in presenting "Michigan's Finest Fair!"
The mission of the Fair Troop is trifold: to serve the community by helping to provide a clean environment for fairgoers, to be the public face of Scouting for the week--modeling helpfulness, cheerful service, and, of course, cleanliness, and to allow Scout participants the opportunity to learn life skills and to practice what they promise when they recite the Scout Oath and Law.

In addition to cleaning and service duties, Scouts have sufficient time to explore the Fair and take part in many other activities, from free shows and demonstrations, to amusement rides, to gaming and social time, to Scoutcraft and Merit Badge work. The members of Troop 1948 typically range in age and experience from the younger Second Class Scouts to the older, more experienced, Venturers and Eagle Scouts.

The mission of this historic Troop could not continue without the support of the Scouts and Scouters of Running Waters and surrounding Districts. The Fair Week Service event will be held July 31st-August 7th, 2016 at the Monroe County Fairgrounds in Monroe, MI and is open to male and female youth participants who have attained a minimum one year experience in the Scouting Program. Adult participants must hold the appropriate trainings for the leadership position they seek with Troop 1948.
