A Message from the Superintendent

Dear Lovejoy Community:

In many ways, yesterday felt like the start of the 2016-2017 school year. All of our teachers and principals were back for our summer professional development which we call Learning@Lovejoy. Now that the staff is back, we need your sons and daughters back in our classrooms. I hope you and your children are enjoying the summer and we will be happy when it is time for them to join us for another school year. School does begin on August 22nd.

National USA Junior Olympics Qualifiers
Congratulations to  Jake Chamberlin and Jahi Rainey who are having a very successful summer in track competition. Both students competed in the local area USA Junior Olympic Trials, advanced to the Regional USA Junior Olympic trials in Odessa, and both qualified to compete in the  National USA Junior Olympics in Sacramento, California, beginning the week of July 25 th .

First Grade Student Shows Entrepreneurial Spirit
We often have high school seniors who will undertake a community service project to satisfy their graduation requirement of completing a Senior Project. Zoe Grall, first grade student at Lovejoy Elementary, is way ahead of the game.

Every summer for three years now, Zoe has wanted to raise money for her specialized horse therapy. Below is a link to Zoe's Facebook event. Zoe's mom is a choral music teacher at Sloan Creek Intermediate School.

Another Great Day in L@L and STEM
I hope each of you is still enjoying your summer break. We had a fantastic day in Lovejoy yesterday as we kicked off the 10th Annual Learning@Lovejoy professional learning conference with our keynote speaker, Dan Heath. Dan  did an excellent job of sharing the strategies from his New York Times Bestseller, Made to Stick, as we translate this research into creating learning experiences which "stick" with our students. To follow some of the key insights which participants are finding impactful, follow us on Twitter #LatL2016.

I n addition to our learning and development, yesterday marked a special occasion as the Lovejoy ISD Board of Trustees held a ceremonial ribbon cutting to open the new wing at Lovejoy High School. The new wing on the east side of the building has specially designed spaces to support science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) programs in Lovejoy. I hope each of you enjoys the rest of your summer break.  We hope you continue to love where you learn. If you have feedback to help us improve, please do not hesitate to contact me on my cell at 214.385.1967.

Respectfully,

Learning @ Lovejoy - Parent Opportunity

With access and exposure comes a great responsibility, of which people of all ages are lacking a true understanding - namely, the lasting digital footprint we create every day. Our young people have technology in their hands and access to an ever-growing and changing collection of digital content. They will always have technology and digital access, so why not explain their rights and responsibilities?
