Our Mission:

We are called to be disciples of Christ,

revealing His Life, Love and Light to the World.

Our Vision:

St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church is a radically welcoming, inclusive faith family - sharing and teaching the love of Jesus Christ through our worship, actions and outreach: transforming ourselves and the world.

Sing With St. Bart's Choir This Summer
Sundays, 10:15 a.m. service

Now's your chance to sing in the St. Bart's choir, even it's just for one week. Every Sunday during summer you have the opportunity to bring your singing voice out of the shower and into the 10:15 a.m. service. Be in the choir seats by 9:45 a.m. for a short rehearsal. All are welcome!

Cheer on Our Believers!
Sunday, July 31, 2:30 p.m.

The Believers play The Living Way at Canyonside Rec Center on field 9. Last week with only eight players, the Believers played a competitive game against Poway Community Church. Much fun was had by all, although the "W" went to the opponent.
ADULT FAITH FORMATION
9am FORUM: Why Do We Do That? The Eucharist
Sunday, July 31, 9 a.m., South Parish Hall
Ever wonder why some people make the sign of the cross during worship? Curious about what really changed when we got a new prayer book in 1979? Come explore the answers to these questions - and ask your own! This Sunday we'll talk about the underlying meaning and movement of the Eucharistic prayer. Join in the conversation as we delve deeper into the liturgy, exploring history, theology, and implications for our lives. All are welcome - whether you are new to the Episcopal tradition, or have been around the Book of Common Prayer for years. Bring your perspective and your questions!
CHILDREN & YOUTH FAITH FORMATION
St. Bart's Youth Retreat
August 27-28
All youth (incoming 6th-12th graders) are invited to our annual overnight "lock-in" retreat on St. Bart's Day. This year's retreat begins at 10 a.m. and ends with Sunday morning worship services. We'll have great conversations about how faith applies to our lives, spend time worshiping God together, and enjoy games and hang time, including capture-the-flag! Fun and new friendships while deepening our relationship with God is always a "win-win." Since meals are involved, parents, please RSVP with John Prust (jprust@stbartschurch.org). Suggested donation of $5-10. Thank you!
Youth Room Painting Party & Lunch
Saturday, August 6, 10 a.m., Youth Room
We are also in the process of giving our youth room a little "makeover"! We have a new logo (created by our own Tessa Strout!), new couches, and a recently donated ping-pong table! All youth are invited to join us as we paint the youth room. Parents, join us for lunch at noon!

Youth Parent Meeting

Sunday, August 14, 9 a.m., Conference Room (next to Youth Room)

Parents, please come discuss our youth program's goals and objectives for the coming year and look ahead at upcoming events. Your input is valued and attendance encouraged!

Youth Confirmation Begins in September
Sunday, September 18, 6 p.m., Youth Room
Our youth Confirmation program will meet every other Sunday evening throughout the year in the Youth Room. Any and all high school students who wish to grow in faith and know Christ more are invited! Contact John Prust at 858-432-7111 for more information.

Education for Ministry (EfM) at St. Bart's
EfM might be for you, if:
  • you long to take a deeper look at what Scriptures really say
  • you want to find a better way of integrating faith with your daily life
  • you would enjoy creative theological reflection based on scripture, tradition, reason and personal experience
  • you think walking together might be better than walking alone
Don't let the program's title throw you. As baptized Christians we are all called to some form of ministry in Christ's name. EfM is a program of lay theological education which has been offered through the Episcopal seminary at Sewanee since 1975. Over four years, participants read and reflect on the Hebrew Bible, the New Testament, Church and world history and the challenges and promises of contemporary Christianity. Our group will meet weekly on Tuesday evenings and will be led by Sewanee-certified mentors Bill Doehr (from St. Bart's) and Canon Christine Spalding (from St. Paul's Cathedral). Stop by the patio on August 7 to learn more about EfM or contact Bill Doehr. Mark your calendar for the EfM interest dinner on Tuesday, August 23 at 6 p.m.

Sandy & Lee found a new home!  Thank you all for the prayers and for being on the lookout for a rental for us. I am happy to report that we have found a new home to rent in Escondido. In fact, we will be only a few blocks from Denny Walters in Old Escondido. And so, a new chapter of our life begins. We are packing like crazy right now. We are coordinating with Serving Hearts to help us with the move on August 13. We are truly blessed to have the church family of St. Bart's!  For their new mailing address, contact Sandy. (7/31)

Have you had your Home Blessed?
Your St. Bart's clergy are available to come to your home for a house blessing. Whether you have a new home or have lived there for many years, House Blessings are an ancient practice that is making a comeback in today's church. Plus, it's a great excuse to throw a little party for your friends and add a little church to your neighborhood!
Contact Rev. Chris Harris at 858-487-2159. (7/24)

Are you moving? Let us bless you on your way.
The church is a fluid community with new members joining all the time, as well as, members who leave for any number of life's circumstances. While it is always sad to see members of our faith family leave, we nevertheless want to mark those moments in our life together and to offer you our blessing on your way. Contact Rev. Chris Harris at 858-487-2159 for more information. (7/24)
Be Social With Us!
